24-07-30 Double
podium for Andretti Altawkilat in Scotland
Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E has enjoyed a rich vein of form in
2024. The duo of Catie Munnings and Timmy Hansen have scored three podiums
from four rounds in Season 4, already matching their top-three tally from
the previous two campaigns.
At the Hydro X Prix the team challenged for victory throughout, with their
two podium finishes consolidating their position as one of the title challengers
for the rest of the campaign.
Andretti Altawkilat currently sit fourth in the Season 4 standings with 62
points, just 25 points away from E.ON Next Veloce Racing in top spot with
six rounds still to go.
Roger Griffiths, Team Principal at Andretti Altawkilat, said: What a
weekend with back-to-back podiums in Scotland. Thats three on the bounce
in three out of four races in Extreme E this year. Its a great result
for Catie and Timmy but, more importantly, its a great result for the
whole Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E team.
We left Scotland really happy. Onwards to Sardinia in a couple of months
and well see if we can pick up some more silverware.
Victory in the opening Qualifying Heat of the Hydro X Prix established the
teams intentions for the weekend in Scotland, while a third-place in
Heat 2 ensured they would compete in the Round 3 Grand Final.
After a difficult start, Andretti Altawkilats Hansen fought hard as
he tried to climb back up the order in the Grand Final. The Swede moved into
the top-three following damage to Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinskys Rosberg
X Racing (RXR) ODYSSEY 21, before being embroiled in more wheel-to-wheel action
with ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Teams (ASXE) Laia Sanz. The latter was able
to hold off Hansens attacks in the opening two laps, with contact made
between the two resulting in a half-spin for the Andretti Altawkilat driver.
It was then down to Munnings after the driver change to take the fight to
ASXE, but she couldnt close the gap to Fraser McConnell and had to settle
for third and another podium finish on home soil.
Catie Munnings, Andretti Altawkilat, said: It was great to have another
podium, especially with it being back-to-back top-three finishes for the team
after we were second in Round 2. It's very difficult to make the Grand Final
and the competition was really tight as it got a lot dryer. The grip changes
so much in Scotland, so it was important to stay ahead of the conditions.
I was really happy with the result for the team.
Timmy Hansen, Andretti Altawkilat, said: A podium finish is always a
great feeling. We had a great Round 3 overall, winning our first qualifying
heat and making it to the Grand Final with a third in the second heat, which
always feels like the hardest part of the weekend. I gave it my all on the
start, but the others also drove really well. I had a big battle with Laia
[Sanz] and ended up hitting her in the back, so I apologise for that, and
in the end couldnt find a way past. We still came home third, which
was a great end to the day.
The team made it three podiums from four races in Dumfries and Galloway the
following day.
Third place in their Qualifying 1 meant it was all to play for heading into
the second Heat, with Munnings and Hansen delivering once again to claim second-place
to reach the Grand Final despite taking a incurring a time penalty
in Qualifying 2.
Despite falling to the back of the pack and receiving a time penalty in the
early stages of the Round 4 Grand Final, Munnings fought back to take third
place with a puncture for RXRs Åhlin-Kottulinsky dropping
the team out of contention for a podium finish.
And that was where the team stayed for the rest of the Grand Final, securing
another third-place finish. Andretti Altawkilat are now just seven points
adrift of their total tally from 2023, underlining just how much of an increase
in performance Munnings and Hansen are enjoying.
Andretti Altawkilat will be chasing more podiums and wins when the championship
returns for its Island X Prix double-header in Sardinia (14-15 and 21-22 September).
Hansen said: A double podium in Scotland is a fantastic result! We really
had to fight hard to get into the Grand Final, but the Andretti Altawkilat
ODYSSEY 21 was super quick. We carried some damage after some heavy contact
in the first corner, so we had to nurse the car home, but it still got us
third and onto the podium once more. Hopefully we can continue our run of
success in Sardinia.

Munnings added: Taking back-to-back podiums in Scotland is something
we can be super proud of. We had a challenging start to Round 4 with some
slippery conditions, but we still pulled through and made it to the Grand
Final.
We started from a difficult grid slot and worked on some different strategies
for how to try to gain from the start, but unfortunately we couldnt
make up ground after contact with Mikaela [Åhlin-Kottulinsky]. We had
some damage as a result, but I still managed to get ahead. Timmy did a great
job managing the risk and brought the car home to secure our podium finish.
Overall, I think our performance was really strong we set some
great times throughout the Hydro X Prix. A huge thanks to the team for their
resilience as there was plenty of work fixing bodywork and damage from racing
on such a slippery track. I am really grateful for all their efforts, and
Im very happy to have three podiums out four races so far this year.
Let's keep that going.

24-07-30 SUN
Minimeal Team rues bad luck at Hydro X Prix
After finishing second fastest in Free Practice, hopes were high in the SUN
Minimeal Team camp for a strong showing at the Hydro X Prix in Scotland.
And when Klara Andersson turned into the final corner of the teams opening
qualifying heat heading the field, there was a strong sense that the Swede
and her team-mate/Team Principal Timo Scheider would be one of the main challengers
in Dumfries and Galloway.
But triumph shortly turned to disaster, as Andersson rolled her ODYSSEY 21
when crossing the finish line resulting in a huge accident. Andersson was
thankfully unharmed from the impact, but the SUN Minimeal team car was badly
damaged from the incident.
Remarkably, the SUN Minimeal Team ODYSSEY 21 was rebuilt in just under three
hours allowing Andersson, who remained unphased despite the roll, and Scheider
the opportunity to carry on in Round 3.
Although they had crossed the line in first in Q1 H1, albeit in rather spectacular
fashion, time penalties incurred meant that SUN Minimeal Team had it all to
do in Q2.
Unfortunately, second place in in their Q2 heat was not enough to secure a
spot in the Grand Final and thus settled for a place in the Redemption Race.
After battling Jenson Buttons JBXE outfit in the opening stages, the
SUN Minimeal Team finished the Redemption Race in second behind LEGACY MOTOR
CLUB IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON and therefore sixth overall in Round
3.
Timo Scheider, SUN Minimeal Team, said: As far as the result is concerned
we were obviously disappointed, because we had the speed to be among the frontrunners.
Klara coped very well with the impact and we were so relieved she was okay,
and then immediately felt comfortable in the car again to go racing.
What incredibly impressed me was the team spirit that each individual
showed. The fact that the guys managed an almost complete rebuild in less
than three hours almost left me speechless. And what also made me very happy
was the spontaneous help from the other teams. That shows the spirit that
prevails in Extreme E.
After their initial promise in Scotland, the SUN Minimeal Team were unfortunately
unable to make it to their first Grand Final of the season.
After initially holding second in Q1 H1 for Round 4, Scheider and Andersson
had to settle for third behind a resurgent JBXE and Round 3 winners E.ON Next
Veloce Racing. A technical issue hindered the teams progress in the
second heat, meaning after showing strong pace at the start of the weekend
the SUN Minimeal Team did not make a Grand Final appearance.
A penalty incurred in the Redemption Race for a dropped Waypoint Flag left
them out of contention, ensuring the SUN Minimeal Team now set their sights
on the Island X Prix double-header in Sardinia (14-15 and 21-22 September).
Klara Andersson, SUN Minimeal Team, said: It was a tricky weekend and
we are now fully focused on the upcoming events in Sardinia. The team did
an incredible job rebuilding the car after the accident at the start of Round
3 and we had showed good pace, but it just was not to be.
Round 4 was also a difficult one for us. After the penalty, there wasn't
much we could do. It was a really tough weekend for us. We know that we have
both the pace and the team to be among the front runners. We won't let our
heads drop now, but will work even harder to come back stronger in the next
rounds in Italy.
Scheider added: The good news is that we had good speed at the beginning
of the weekend, so we know the pace is there. The feelings are mixed, but
in the end the positives outweigh the negatives: we proved that we are fast
and have an extremely high quality of personnel in the team. We're also delighted
to have won the GridPlay vote twice, because the recognition from the fans
out there feels incredibly good.
Now it's time to leave bad things behind and prepare for the next two
race weekends at full steam.

24-07-18 Extreme E continues
impactful legacy programme at Hydro X Prix
As Extreme E made its exciting return to racing action in Scotland, the latest
Hydro X Prix also saw the championship continue its crucial legacy initiatives
in Dumfries and Galloway.
The championship has been working with the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board,
a non-profit organisation based in Scotland dedicated to conserving and enhancing
the aquatic environment of the River Nith and its tributaries, since the championships
debut event in Scotland last year. The Boards primary objective is to
protect and enhance the river's fish populations, improve water quality, and
create sustainable fishing opportunities for local communities.
As a result of the Hydro X Prix legacy programme, Extreme E and the Nith District
Salmon Fishery Board have partnered to support a multi-stage environmental
initiative focused on mitigating climate change effects upon Atlantic salmon,
highlighting issues caused by rising water temperatures and change in rainfall
patterns.
This years activities centred on the preservation and regeneration of
the land surrounding the Nith River and its tributaries. Lead by Jim Henderson
from the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board, with support from Extreme E Science
Committee members Professor Lucy Woodall and Professor Richard Washington,
the drivers and teams took part in Green Engineering activities,
which are fundemental to crucial data collection, river maintenance, and restoration
projects.
One of the first activities involved electrofishing, a technique used to safely
capture salmon from the river to monitor their population. This data is vital
for ongoing research and conservation efforts. Additionally, drivers carried
out Aquatic Kick Sampling, surveying aquatic insects and invertebrates,
which are essential for assessing the health of the river ecosystem and the
food sources for salmon.
To combat riverbank erosion, a practical demonstration of Willow Spiling
also took place. This traditional technique involves weaving freshly cut willow
stakes and rods to stabilise and protect the riverbank, preventing erosion
that can destroy salmon eggs. These hands-on activities not only contribute
to environmental conservation, but also educated the drivers on sustainable
practices.
The legacy programme in Dumfries and Galloway is also supported by the championships
Technology Communications Partner, Vodafone Business, through providing Internet
of Things (IoT) hydrosensor solutions to help monitor the water quality and
temperature levels of the river. In 2023, Vodafone Business planted temperature
sensors to gather urgently needed readings from the distant and varied locations
on the Nith. The objective is to create a stream of data across the seasons
that will enable the scientists to understand the trends and what was happening
in different parts of the river.
Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: I believe the Legacy
Programme in Scotland is one of the most impactful in the championships
history, not only in terms of delivering vital ecological work but also the
breadth of collaboration.
The drivers really got into the fine detail of understanding the importance
of Atlantic salmon conversation in Scotland, and it has been great to work
alongside the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board and Vodafone Business to
partner on such an impactful initiative that will be in place for many years
to come.
For centuries, the River Nith has been home to one of Scotlands most
iconic species, the Atlantic salmon. However, the number of adult salmon returning
to Scottish rivers from the Atlantic ocean has declined steeply in recent
decades. Atlantic salmon play a vital role in the functioning of aquatic ecosystems
as both predator and prey. They are an indicator species; the health of salmon
populations closely reflects the status of their larger marine ecosystem.
Each individual salmon returns from the wider Atlantic Ocean to spawn in the
river where it hatched so rivers, such as the Nith, around the Atlantic are
home to distinct subpopulations of this salmon. If the Atlantic Salmon cannot
return to their spawning ground due to temperature changes in the water or
the effects of erosion, this disrupts the life cycle.
Jim Henderson, Fishery Director at the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board,
said: Salmon is a really big part of Scotlands legacy and history.
Its really important for our wider environmental ecosystem that we do
everything that we possibly can to make sure that theyre there for our
future generations. It is an important environmental issue and it is great
that Extreme E and its drivers are using their platform to raise awareness.
This is a genuine legacy project, which we will see the benefits of
in many years to come.
With the assistance of Extreme E stemming from 2023s initial legacy
activities at the River Nith, the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board has planted
over 1,200 native trees, established a plant nursery and built fences to protect
the river habitat.
This has helped to stabilise the riverbanks, which minimises erosion and salmon
egg mortality, whilst also keeping grazing sheep out, allowing the trees to
grow. The trees also cast shade over the rivers which cool the water temperature,
as temperatures over 23 °C cause detrimental issues for salmon.
The investment to support the Hydro X Prix legacy initiative has also resulted
in the development of a Nith District plant nursery at the River Niths
headquarters, which enables cost effective planting and ability to germinate
local trees before their transplantation into the river banks.
Just last month, and supported by a class of local schoolchildren from Kelloholm
Primary School, the championship visited the plant nursery to observe the
growth of seedlings as well as plant some of their own which, when
ready, will be transported and planted on the riverbank to benefit the area
for years to come.

24-07-14 Back-to-back
wins for E.ON Next Veloce Racing at the Hydro X Prix in Scotland
E.ON Next Veloce Racing made it a double success at the Hydro X
Prix, taking victory in Scotland in Round 4 of Season 4 to make it two wins
from as many races.
Kevin Hansen and Molly Taylor narrowly led home ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team (ASXE)
once again to extend their Extreme E championship lead, with Andretti Altawkilat
completing the top three in Dumfries and Galloway.
Rosberg X Racing (RXR) were fourth in the Grand Final as their progress was
in hindered following a puncture, while the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team took
the Redemption Race honours ahead of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB IN ASSOCIATION WITH
JIMMIE JOHNSON.
E.ON Next Veloce Racing lead the Extreme E championship standings with 87
points, nine clear of nearest rivals ASXE.
Molly Taylor, E.ON Next Veloce Racing, said: Today was a real scrap.
I think in Extreme E, particularly now with how close the competition is,
the fight to get to the Grand Final is insane and it can go any which way.
Once you get to that Final the slate is wiped clean, and with the support
of our fans in GridPlay we were able to put ourselves in a good position on
the start line.
It's one thing to be fast on track, which we know we have been all weekend,
but we had to execute it under pressure so it feels great to have managed
that. Its great to be heading to Sardinia at the top of the championship
but we cant rest on our laurels now. We have learnt a lot this weekend
and we need to keep pushing for the remainder of the season.
Kevin Hansen, E.ON Next Veloce Racing, said: Another win on home soil,
what more could you wish for. It's so tricky with double-headers because you
can't let yourself go at any point. Getting excited takes away from your focus
and we had to be able to perform today too. For sure it was not a straight
road to get here, but that just makes this win all the more satisfying when
we were able to execute such a great race in the Final.
Grand Final
Opening the Round 4 Grand Final, E.ON Next Veloces Kevin Hansen stormed
into an early lead ahead of ASXEs Laia Sanz. RXR and Andretti Altawkilat
followed behind, with Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky and Catie Munnings closing
contesting third spot.
Hansen built a lead of 10 seconds by the time the teams approached the Switch
Zone, whilst RXR suffered a puncture allowing Catie Munnings in the Andretti
Altakwilat ODYSSEY 21 to pass during the second lap. The Brit did, however,
pick up a time penalty for dropped flags.
After the driver change, E.ON Next Veloces Molly Taylor set off with
an advantage of 8.8 seconds as ASXEs Fraser McConnell looked to close
the gap as they headed out for lap three.
Racing until the finish line, ASXEs McConnell was all over the rear
bumper of Taylors E.ON Next Veloce car in the closing moments, but was
unable to make the crucial move for the win. Taylor held on to top spot, ensuring
a clean sweep for E.ON Next Veloce at the Hydro X Prix. The final podium spot
was awarded to Andretti Altawkilat.
Redemption Race
The race saw Jenson Buttons JBXE fly off the start line with Andreas
Bakkerud storming into an early lead, chased by Legacy Motor Clubs debut
British driver Patrick ODonovan.
The second lap saw a battle up the hill between the JBXE driver and Legacy
M.Cs ODonovan who got ahead on the first lap to take first place
with a decisive overtake, with NEOM McLaren XEs Christina Gutiérrez
running ahead of SUN Minimeals Timo Schieder.
A strong battle developed between Scheider and Guttiérez, with the
German unfortunately picking up a 10-second penalty as he took down a Waypoint
flag.
As they headed into the switch zone, all four teams were separated by just
a few seconds. Legacy M.Cs Gray Leadbetter was first out of the Switch
Zone, closely followed by NEOM McLaren XEs Ekström. The Swede,
celebrating his birthday in Scotland this weekend, quickly took the lead of
the race, using his ENOWA Hyperdrive to pass. Issues for JBXE and SUN Minimeal
dropped them out of contention.

24-07-14 Bad luck for the
SUN Minimeal Team in Scotland
Also the race Sunday at the second Extreme E event of the season
2024 in Scotland did not go according to plan for Timo Scheider and Klara
Andersson.
Wolfhalden, 14.07.2024. The speed is there, the commitment of the entire team
couldnt be harder, but bad luck continues to have a firm grip on the
SUN Minimeal Team in the 2024 Extreme E season. On the Sunday of the Hydro
X Prix in Sanquhar, Scotland, drivers Klara Andersson (24) and Timo Scheider
(45) were once again unable to translate their potential and that of their
ODYSSEY21 prototype into an adequate result.
After the Scheider Motorsport technicians had thoroughly checked the approximately
550 hp battery-electric racer again following the previous day's accident
and the lightning-fast rebuild, the SUN Minimeal Team had high expectations
for the second day of racing on the 2.7-kilometer circuit in the former Glenmuckloch
coal mine. However, the squad led by two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider suffered
the next setbacks in the two qualifying runs: A slow puncture in Q1was followed
by a failed power steering in the second heat, which left the SUN Minimeal
Team with no chance of making it to the grand final.
The "Redemption Race", in which the final positions 5 to 8 are fought
out, did not go according to plan for the team from Lake Constance either.
First, as feared, Scheider made a poor start from his still particularly muddy
grid position and shortly after, while chasing the McLaren car in front of
him, hit a bump so unluckily that he knocked over one of the flags at the
side of the track. The consequence: a 10-second time penalty, which Klara
Andersson had to serve during the driver change. As a result, more than third
place in the Redemption Race and seventh place in the overall classification
were no longer possible.
"Another tricky raceday," summarized the Swede. "After the
penalty, there wasn't much we could do. It was a really tough weekend for
us. We know that we have both the pace and the team to be among the front
runners. We won't let our heads drop now, but will work even harder to come
back stronger in the next race."
Team principal and driver Timo Scheider also underlined the high morale in
the team: "The good news is that we had good speed already from Friday.
Then Klara's rollover threw the whole system into disarray. I can only emphasize
once again the incredible job the team has done in rebuilding the car. This
morning, the bad luck continued in qualifying, and we were given the worst
grid position in the raffle for the Redemption Race. The feelings are mixed,
but in the end the positives outweigh the negatives: We proved that we are
fast and have an extremely high quality of personnel in the team. We're also
delighted to have won the grid vote twice, because the recognition from the
fans out there feels incredibly good. Now it's time to leave bad things behind
and prepare for the next two race weekends at full steam."
The third and fourth event of the Extreme E 2024 season will take place on
two consecutive weekends on September 14/15 and 21/22 in Sardinia.
24-07-14 Ingen pallplats
men två finaler
Två finaler, men ingen pallplats. Det var en utmanande helg för
Rosberg X Racing när tredje och fjärde rundan i Extreme E kördes
i Skottland.
bilen i stort sett okörbar.
bättre resultat i Sardinien, säger Johan Kristoffersson.
På den italienska ön kommer det att avverkas totalt fyra race under
två tävlingshelger direkt efter varandra i september. Det är
en bana där Kristoffersson och hans team har varit riktigt starka under
tidigare år.
24-07-14 ASXE claim top spot
in Round 4 qualifying in Scotland
ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team (ASXE) headed the Qualifying standings as the second
day of racing at the Hydro X Prix in Scotland got underway.
Laia Sanz and Fraser McConnell finished at the top of the leaderboard as Carlos
Sainz's outfit showed their pace on the 2.7km Dumfries and Galloway course.
ASXE will be joined in the Round 4 Grand Final by Rosberg X Racing (RXR),
E.ON Next Veloce Racing and Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E.
LEGACY MOTOR CLUB IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON, JBXE, the NEOM McLaren
Extreme E Team and SUN Minimeal Team will compete in the Redemption Race.
Qualifying 1 Heat 1
JBXE's Bakkerud made a powerful start, using the ENOWA Hyperdrive to take
the lead at the first corner, followed by SUN Minimeal Teams Timo Scheider.
Behind, an exciting side-by-side battle between E.ON Next Veloce's Kevin Hansen
and Legacy Motor Club's Patrick O'Donovan ensued, with Hansen utilising the
grass on the inside line to move up to third.
O'Donovan faced challenging conditions with low visibility due to the mud,
making it difficult to maintain pace. Towards the end of the lap E.ON Next
Veloces Hansen continued to progress up to second place, chasing down
JBXEs Bakkerud all the way to the driver change.
JBXEs Sorensen maintained the lead out of the Switch Zone closely followed
by E.ON Next Veloce's Molly Taylor. The battle for the lead intensified between
the two teams, with SUN Minimeals Klara Andersson a long way back in
third with Legacy Motor Clubs Gray Leadbetter rounding out the order.
JBXE extended their advantage in the remaining laps to secure a first Heat
victory for the pairing of Sorensen and Bakkerud.
Qualifying 1 Heat 2
A rapid getaway from Cristina Gutiérrez saw NEOM McLaren XE snatch
the lead, followed by ASXE, Andretti Altawkilat, and RXR.
RXR shortly moved into P3, with Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky passing Andretti
Altawkilats Catie Munnings as the latter battled the changing conditions.
An unfortunate spin for Gutiérrez at the start of the second lap dropped
NEOM McLaren XE back down the order to third, allowing ASXEs Laia Sanz
to take to the front. The team were then given a 10-second time penalty for
a dropped flag, pushing them further back.
It was tight between ASXEs Fraser McConnell and RXRs Johan Kristoffersson
in the fight for first out of the Switch Zone. McConnell held firm to keep
the on-track advantage, but a dropped flag resulted in a time penalty that
demoted the Spanish outfit to second overall, propelling RXR to the top of
the H2 standings.
Further back, NEOM McLaren XE's Mattias Ekström and Andretti Altawkilats
Timmy Hansen battled hard - with the latter coming out on top in the closing
stages.
Qualifying 2 Heat 1
Timmy Hansen made the strongest start for Andretti Altawkilat, holding onto
the lead despite attacks from E.ON Next Veloces Taylor and ASXEs
McConnell. Hansen defended well under pressure, ensuring his team entered
the Switch Zone after his two-lap stint in the lead. Further back, a technical
issue dropped SUN Minimeal Team out of the battle for first.
A dropped flag and subsequent 10-second penalty for E.ON Next Veloces
Taylor during her run was a setback for the team to contend with as they looked
to replicate their race-winning pace from Round 3.
The competition remained close between the top three after the driver change.
Kevin Hansen was pushing hard for E.ON Next Veloce, but in trying to make
up time dropped a further two Waypoint flags, resulting in another 20 seconds
of time penalties.
Despite passing ASXE on the final tour, the penalties for the British team
ensured they would finish third in the Heat overall behind ASXE and Andretti
Altawkilat, with SUN Minimeal fourth.
Qualifying 2 - Heat 2
It was a dramatic start to the Heat, as JBXEs Sorensen rolled her ODYSSEY
21 at the first turn which brought out the red flag. The American was thankfully
able to walk away from the accident after medical checks.
The race was restarted with a three-car line-up, with RXRs Kristoffersson
taking an early advantage followed by NEOM McLaren XEs Ekström
and Legacy Motor Clubs Gray Leadbetter. The teams retained their on-track
positions until the Switch Zone, although NEOM McLaren XE incurred a 10-second
penalty for a dropped flag during their first stint.
There were further incidents at the driver change, as RXR received a 30-second

McLaren XEs ODYSSEY 21.
Gutierrez emerged ahead, leading the pack into the third lap and maintaining
position until the finish-line. Their earlier penalty dropped them to second,
though, behind Legacy Motor Club. Legacy M.C.s Patrick ODonovan
charged on his two-lap run, passing RXRs Åhlin-Kottulinsky en
route to the chequered flag, as the youngest ever pairing in Extreme Es
history scored a Heat win on its debut weekend together.

24-07-14 E.ON Next Veloce
Racing take superb first win of Season 4 in Scotland
E.ON Next Veloce Racing took victory in Round 3 of Extreme E Season 4 in Dumfries
and Galloway, Scotland.
After a clean sweep in both Qualifying heats, Kevin Hansen and Molly Taylor
showed their speed once more to take their first win of the 2024 campaign
at the Hydro X Prix
ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team (ASXE) finished in second place, while Andretti Altawkilat
Extreme E rounded out the top three - with Catie Munnings securing a home
podium for the second year running.
E.ON Next Veloce Racing now head the standings with 62 points, five clear
of ASXE with the Hydro X Prix set to continue tomorrow (14 July).
Kevin Hansen, E.ON Next Veloce Racing, said: What a day! In our first
race we had to work really hard for it after an unlucky start, and again in
the second race we had to do some overtaking to get through to the front,
but that is where we really showed our pace.
In the Final, Molly [Taylor] secured a mega start to get the lead, which
made my life a lot easier. From there we both just tried to manage the race
and manage the gap to the ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team behind. All of last year
I ended up starting in the Finals, so to actually cross the finish line to
win today was an amazing feeling, and hopefully we can do the same tomorrow.
Molly Taylor, E.ON Next Veloce Racing, said: We've just finished Round
3 in Scotland and it feels great to take the win. It has been a really close
battle all day, the pace has been really high from the other teams but Kevin
and I managed to have a clean sweep today which is excellent for the championship
points.
The team did a great job. We progressed a lot throughout the day as
we take on every little lesson and little boost that we can. The adrenaline
is still high and we'll be riding that momentum into tomorrow.
Grand Final
E.ON Next Veloces Taylor seized the advantage at the start to take the
lead for the British outfit, edging ahead of ASXE. As the leading duo broke
clear, contact behind, between Andretti Altawkilats Timmy Hansen and
Rosberg X Racings (RXR) Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, resulted in
damage to the rear of the latters ODYSSEY 21, ruling Nico Rosbergs
outfit out of contention for victory.
A tussle between ASXEs Laia Sanz and Hansen allowed Taylor to make some
headway in the lead. It was fiercely-contested for second place with contact
between the two, including a half-spin for Hansen as he attempted to overtake,
but Sanz held on to her position as the drivers entered the Switch Zone.
Following the driver change, ASXEs Fraser McConnell utilised his ENOWA
Hyperdrive to close the gap on E.ON Next Veloces Kevin Hansen, but consistently
impressive speed from the Swede saw him maintain the gap.
And Hansen held on to take his teams first win of Season 4 - maintaining
E.ON Next Veloces impressive record of scoring a podium in every round
in 2024. The British outfit also claimed extra points earlier in the day for
their Qualifying Heat victories and were fastest in the Continental Traction
Challenge for Round 3.
Laia Sanz, ASXE, said: It was a great day today and it was in the Grand
Final where we found the most pace. I am happy about my start - I didnt
get much traction at first, but I held on and I didnt back down. Then
I defended from Timmy [Hansen], which was not easy, and then Fraser was able
to push to the flag. I am happy about todays work and proud of the team.
Today we found ourselves in a tricky strategy, but we finished second and
thats very positive. Onto tomorrow!
Catie Munnings, Andretti Altakwilat, said: Its been great to secure
back-to-back podiums for the team here. Its difficult to make the finals
and the competition today was really tight - especially as it got a lot drier.
The terrain changes so much here in Scotland, so it was important to stay
on top of the conditions. Im really happy with the result for the team
today and look forward to racing tomorrow - hopefully climbing up a few steps
on the podium!
Redemption Race
The race began with a fierce battle between JBXEs Amanda Sorensen and
SUN Minimeals Timo Scheider, with Sorensen emerging ahead despite minor
contact, leading the Redemption Race for Jenson Buttons team.
NEOM McLaren XE faced an early setback, retiring on the first lap due to a
technical issue.
Legacy M.C.s British driver Patrick ODonovan made a charge, overtaking
Scheider for second place and then executing a superb move to pass Sorensen
to take the lead.
SUN Minimeal Teams Scheider then began to close on JBXEs Sorensen,
getting ahead as the two made contact. Scheider slotted into second, but a
technical problem for JBXE slowed Sorensens progress, dropping the team
back.
After the Switch Zone, Legacy Motor Clubs Gray Leadbetter neatly preserved
the advantage in her stint, crossing the line first ahead of SUN Minimeal
Teams Klara Andersson.

24-07-14 Strong team performance
by SUN Minimeal
Despite an accident the SUN Minimeal Team with Timo Scheider and Klara Andersson
scored important points for the Extreme E standings in Scotland.
Wolfhalden, 13.07.2024. The SUN Minimeal Team finished an extremely eventful
first day of racing with a good result at the "Hydro X Prix", the
second event of Extreme E 2024 in the former Glenmuckloch coal mine in Sanquhar,
Scotland. Drivers Klara Andersson (24) and Timo Scheider (45) brought their
yellow ODYSSEY21 prototype home in sixth place, rewarding themselves and their
team for an exceptional performance. It was thanks to a real tour de force
by the SUN Minimeal technicians that the approximately 550 hp electric car
was able to take part in the races.
Having already been strong in the free practice sessions on the 2.7-kilometer
uphill and downhill track, the Swedish-German driver duo had set their sights
high for race day as well. And when Klara Andersson crossed the finish line
as the winner of the first qualifying session, everything seemed to be in
order for the Scheider Motorsport team, who are in charge of running the car
for the SUN Minimeal. But just seconds later, the joy turned to horror: Immediately
after crossing the finish line, Klara hit a bump so unluckily that her racer
was lifted out and rolled over several times.
Thanks to the high safety standards of the ODYSSEY21, the young Swede was
uninjured. However, the car was badly damaged and another outing on the same
day seemed almost utopian. But because the expression "giving up"
is not part of the vocabulary of the SUN Minimeal Team, the technicians began
to get the car back on the road without hesitation. The fact that members
of the competing teams also spontaneously offered their help and lent a hand
shows the great sporting spirit in Extreme E.
And indeed, the heavily damaged car was repaired right in time for Andersson/Scheider
to finish in second place in the second qualifying session. The fact that
they still didn't make it into the grand final of the top four teams was due
to two penalties imposed after Q1 for contact with a competitor and a speeding
offense in the changing area, which cost them two positions. The SUN Minimeal
Team lost outby just seven tenths of a second in the play-off with the Rosberg
Team, which was tied on points, for a place in the final.
In the small final, the so-called "Redemption Race", Scheider initially
took the lead, but then clashed with a competitor and was pushed into the
straw bales, whereupon another car crashed into the back of him. Despite this,
Timo and Klara fought on and finished the Redemption Race in second place,
which meant sixth place overall.
Hopes are high for the second race day. Scheider: "We will check the
car again completely until tomorrow to make sure that there is no more consequential
damage. As far as the result is concerned, we are obviously disappointed,
because we had the speed to be among the front runners. What incredibly impressed
me was the team spirit that each individual showed. The fact that the guys
managed an almost complete rebuild in less than three hours almost leaves
me speechless. And what also made me very happy was the spontaneous help from
the other teams. That shows the spirit that prevails in Extreme E. Klara also
coped very well with the 48 g impact and immediately felt comfortable in the
car again. We have shown that we are a force to be reckoned with. I'm looking
forward to race day tomorrow."
The qualifying sessions (from 09:00 CET) and final races (from 16:00 CET)
will also be shown on Sunday via livestream on Facebook or YouTube or via
the official series website.

E.ON Next Veloce Racing fastest in Hydro X Prix free practice
E.ON Next Veloce Racing topped the timesheets in Free Practice for the 2024
Hydro X Prix, the curtain raiser event for Extreme E Season 4 Round 3 and
4 taking place in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, this weekend (13-14 July).
The second consecutive year of racing at the epic Glenmuckloch coal mine site
kicked off earlier today, with Round 3 and 4 of the championship set to get
underway tomorrow in Scotland.
The British team topped the overall leaderboard, with drivers Kevin Hansen
and Molly Taylor quickest out the blocks to set an impressive fastest time
of 8:58.59 mins, ahead of SUN Minimeal Team and Andretti Altawkilat Extreme
E as the eight teams took to the picturesque course based in Dumfries and
Galloway.
Despite being the fastest in FP2, NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team suffered penalties
which saw them drop down to fourth overall.

Molly Taylor, E.ON Next Veloce Racing, said: Im excited to be
racing in Scotland this week, we have some happy memories from the Hydro X
Prix in Season 3. So, its great to be back again this year and hopefully
well be on the podium again. The opening rounds of this season were
really positive for us as a team, so well be looking to repeat that
form at the upcoming races and continue to push forward in the championship.
The Hydro X Prix is a home race for us with the Veloce offices, and
a lot of the team, based in the UK, so we really want to make it a special
occasion.
Timo Scheider, SUN Minimeal Team, said: We have used the past weeks
and months to completely check the car and analyse in minute detail why our
performance in Jeddah was not satisfactory. And I'm very happy that this analysis
has also brought some interesting findings to light, which makes me very optimistic
for the second race weekend in Scotland.
I think that the terrain at the Hydro X Prix should suit both Klara
and me well. I finished on the podium there last year, so I have good memories
of Glenmuckloch.

24-07-12 Exciting
new course layout revealed for this weekend's Hydro X Prix
Pioneering racing series Extreme E has unveiled its latest course layout for
this weekends Hydro X Prix in Scotland (13-14 July).
The Dumfries and Galloway location is renowned to be one of the most exhilarating
on the Extreme E calendar, with changing terrains, gradients and undulations
making it one of the toughest to master in the championship.
The new layout for Season 4 is no different, as the eight teams and 16 world
class drivers get ready to race the ODYSSEY 21s once more in 2024.
The starting position is the same as last year, a jaw-dropping moment as each
driver begins their two-lap stint in the former Glenmuckloch opencast coal
mine. Racing off the line, the teams will jostle for position before turning
a sharp right through Waypoint 1, before an immediate hard left through Waypoints
2 and 3 heading up the steep hill onto the grass moorlands for an all-new
challenge.
From Waypoint 4 via a quick left, right flick to Waypoint 7, the hill climbs
a staggering 100m in elevation, before the drivers are met with yet another
change in track conditions as the course gradient becomes smoother, as well
as wider and more open for teams to maximise the quickest lines for the ultimate
lap time.
The majority of the 2.7km course is raced on the grassy terrain, however it
would not be Extreme E without its jumps, and there are plenty of those to
contend with which arrive at Waypoint 13 where the cars get some air time,
and again at Waypoints 14 and 19 that both jump over a river channel. After
safely navigating this challenging section, the ODYSSEY 21s will then sprint
downwards into the former coal mine once more for their second lap or to the
Switch Zone for the driver change.
As ever, being on the pace for the Continental Traction Challenge will be
crucial. The team that sets the fastest time, a combination of both the male
and female drivers fastest times, through the allocated sector will
win the Continental Traction Challenge and earn two championship points. As
a result, each teams deployment of their ENOWA Hyperdrive, activated
when the driver presses a button on their steering wheel for a short boost
in power, will be pivotal.
Tamara Molinaro, Extreme E Championship driver, said: I think it is
going to be a very fun track for the drivers. The changeable weather in Scotland
is definitely going to add a different dynamic this weekend and that should
make it very interesting. There are different terrains, including grass, so
there are sections which could get quite muddy during the Hydro X Prix and
the drivers will have to be wary of making mistakes in those conditions when
pushing hard.
The jump sections will be really exciting behind the wheel and overall
I think it is a great layout. You have to nail the opening corners, otherwise
you will be compromised all the way up the steep climb into the grassy section
of the course. You really have to focus on putting a strong lap together.
After heading uphill, you are immediately into a technical part of the course
and also still climbing. So there is a lot to get right on multiple terrains
and will be crucial to overall lap time.
It is so important when pushing to be focused, because braking a centimetre
too late can be costly. We have seen that in Extreme E anywhere can be an
overtaking possibility and I do not see that changing this weekend. We have
amazing drivers in this series and I am sure they will be creating opportunities
wherever possible.
Extreme Es spectacular return to racing action can be viewed on ITV3
in the UK, with both Grand Finals live from 1500-1700 BST, over both Saturday
13 and Sunday 14 July. Outside of the UK, please visit here for broadcaster

24-07-10 Kristoffersson
vill vara kvar i topp
Efter nästan fem månaders uppehåll är det dags för
andra tävlingshelgen i årets Extreme E, nu i Skottland.
- Vi är taggade och ska göra vårt bästa för att
behålla ledningen, säger Johan Kristoffersson i mästerskapstoppande
Rosberg X Racing.
Kristoffersson och teamkamraten Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky fick en flygande
start på årets mästerskap med en seger direkt i Saudiarabien
i februari.
fuktigare terräng i gruvområdet Glenmuckloch i södra Skottland.
positiva erfarenheter dock.

Amanda Sorensen joins Jenson Button's JBXE for Hydro X Prix
Jenson Buttons JBXE outfit will have a new driver line-up for the Hydro
X Prix in Scotland, as Amanda Sorensen returns to the Extreme E championship
to partner with Andreas Bakkerud.
Sorensen made her debut last season for Chip Ganassi Racing, competing in
all 10 Rounds alongside RJ Anderson and claiming two podium finishes en route
to fifth overall in the standings.
One of those top-three results came in Scotland, and the American will be
hoping for a similar result when she returns to the Extreme E paddock to team
up with Norwegian Bakkerud.
Sorensens replaces Dania Akeel at Jenson Buttons outfit at the
Hydro X Prix, which marks a home event for JBXE on 13-14 July.
JBXE currently sits seventh in the overall Extreme E standings and will be
looking to climb up the leaderboard when the championship returns to racing
later this month.
Amanda Sorensen, JBXE driver, said: Its great to be back in the
championship competing for JBXE at the teams home race in the UK. I
am excited to be back racing in Extreme E, and to join the JBXE team. I had
a really strong event the last time we raced in Scotland and it would be fantastic
to repeat and get on the podium again.
The main thing, though, is to put in a strong performance alongside
Andreas [Bakkerud] and get the team moving up the standings.
Jenson Button, JBXE team owner, said: We are thrilled to have Amanda
as part of our driver line-up for the Hydro X Prix in Scotland. Amanda has
strong pedigree in the series having already finished on the podium multiple
times last season, and we are hoping she can form a strong team with Andreas
and score a big haul of points at the Hydro X Prix.
We are looking forward to racing again and believe we will be competitive
in Scotland.

O'Donovan to make Extreme E debut with Legacy Motor Club at Hydro X Prix
Patrick ODonovan will make his Extreme E race debut for LEGACY MOTOR
CLUB IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON (LEGACY M.C.) at the Hydro X Prix
in Scotland (13-14 July).
After a year-long stint as Championship Driver in the series, 20-year-old
ODonovan will race alongside 19-year-old Gray Leadbetter for the American
outfit to form Extreme Es youngest driver pairing to date.
ODonovan stands in for team co-owner and driver Jimmie Johnson, who
will make his Extreme E bow at the upcoming double-header event in Sardinia,
Italy.
Alongside his Extreme E exploits, ODonovan already has proven pedigree
in his fledgling off-road racing career as a two-time British rallycross champion.
It is not just on the domestic stage, however, where ODonovan has shown
his talents. He is an FIA RX2e race-winner and scored a podium at the final
round of the 2023 World Rallycross Championship in Hong Kong.
LEGACY M.C. made its Extreme E debut at the Desert X Prix in Saudi Arabia
earlier this year with Leadbetter and Travis Pastrana behind the wheel. The
American outfit is sixth in the overall standings and will look to move up
the leaderboard at the Hydro X Prix.
Patrick ODonovan, LEGACY M.C. driver, said: I am really excited
to make my Extreme E debut for LEGACY M.C. and race the ODYSSEY 21 for the
first time. I feel like I know the car really well having been Championship
Driver for quite some time, and hope to show what Ive learned when we
get back on track in Scotland.
Im really looking forward to mixing it with the best out on track.
LEGACY M.C. showed huge potential at the first event in Saudi Arabia and alongside
Gray [Leadbetter] we will look to build on that at the Hydro X Prix. To race
for Jimmie Johnson is an incredible feeling.
Jimmie Johnson, co-owner of LEGACY M.C., said: Patrick has already shown
to have huge potential in this style of racing and when we needed a seat to
be filled at LEGACY M.C. he was the obvious candidate. He's young, hungry
and has bags of race-winning credentials at such a young age.
Were aiming for a strong performance in Scotland and think we
have the energy in the team with Patrick and Gray behind the wheel to do so.
I am eager to make my series debut, but will have to wait a little longer
to do so, and therefore will be watching Gray and Patrick from the sidelines
giving it their all at the next event.

Grain on developing the Pioneer 25 - a world-first for motorsport
The launch of the first Extreme H car, the Pioneer 25, marks a groundbreaking
new era for motorsport and leading automotive technology.
The development of the Pioneer 25 has been led by Mark Grain, the championships
Technical Director, ensuring the worlds first hydrogen racing series
has an all-new car dedicated for its hydrogen-powered future.
In an interview following the official unveiling, Grain explains how the all-new
Pioneer 25 marks a major shift for the series ahead of Extreme H debuting
in 2025.
The launch of the Pioneer 25 for Extreme H marks a significant evolution in
our series, representing the pinnacle of hydrogen fuel cell technology in
motorsport. As Technical Director at Extreme H, I am thrilled to showcase
this all-new car, manufactured by Spark Racing Technology and designed specifically
to leverage Symbio's cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell technology, and to highlight
how this vehicle will set new standards for racing performance and sustainability.
Drawing from over three years of data from Extreme E, the Pioneer 25 is a
testament to our commitment to innovation. Our partners, such as Spark Racing
Technology, Symbio, Fortescue ZERO and FOX Suspension have been instrumental
in this journey.
The Pioneer 25 is an all-new chassis, purpose-designed to introduce hydrogen
fuel cells to racing. Extreme E has already proven that electric vehicles
can endure the harshest climatic and racing conditions, competing aggressively
on challenging terrains. With Extreme H, we aim to demonstrate the same robustness
and versatility for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. We want the world to see
that the Pioneer 25 can perform under intense racing conditions, handle stress,
and still deliver exceptional performance.
Our goals for Extreme H are ambitious. We have set higher benchmarks for overall
performance including speed and acceleration. The Pioneer 25s peak output
of 400kW (550bhp) ensures it can accelerate from 0-100 kph in just 4.5 seconds
and tackle gradients of up to 130 per cent. This impressive performance coupled
to much improved ride, grip and handling comfortably offset any increase in
mass.
Symbio's hydrogen fuel cell powers the Pioneer 25. This is a fuel cell is
that has been designed and engineered specifically to meet the rigorous demands
of motor racing. It provides a 75 kW charging the battery, which serves as
the primary energy source. The battery pack, produced and supported trackside
by Fortescue ZERO, ensures consistent and reliable performance.
The Pioneer 25 has undergone an intensive testing programme to prepare for
its debut. Each car in Extreme H features a standardised package of parts
from Spark Racing Technology, while allowing teams the flexibility to customise
areas such as the front and rear bodywork sections and lights. This customisation
enables teams to replicate the look of everyday car models, adding a layer
of familiarity and relatability to the futuristic design, and we look forward
to seeing this develop in upcoming seasons.
The car's low centre of gravity, combined with modified and improved suspension
geometry, enhance its ride and handling. These advancements ensure that the
Pioneer 25 not only meets but exceeds the performance standards set by the
ODYSSEY 21, delivering a powerful and exhilarating racing experience.
Extreme H represents the first-ever testbed of hydrogen technology in motorsport,
not just in our racing cars, but also in transportation, infrastructure, refueling
processes, and safety regulations. This groundbreaking initiative positions
us as pioneers in the field, showcasing the potential of hydrogen as a sustainable
and powerful energy source.
The Pioneer 25 is more than just a racing car; it is a symbol of our commitment
to advancing hydrogen technology and sustainability in motorsport. We are
excited to debut this revolutionary vehicle and to continue pushing the boundaries
of what is possible in the race towards a greener future.
We are extremely excited to unveil it at the Hydro X Prix later this month,
to showcase the incredible performance of the Pioneer 25 and groundbreaking
hydrogen fuel cell technology.

Agag on launching Racing's New Frontier
The evolution from Extreme E to Extreme H is one of the most thrilling advancements
in motorsport and sustainable technology I have ever been part of.
When we launched Extreme E, our goal was to create a platform for innovation
and solutions in mobility, showcasing what new technologies can achieve in
the fight against climate change. Now, with Extreme H, we are taking that
mission to a new level by embracing hydrogen, the magic molecule in the future
of green power.
The launch event aboard the St. Helena along the River Thames yesterday was
spectacular as we welcomed a new era for motorsport and the worlds first
hydrogen racing series. It was a truly special moment.
The evolution to Extreme H feels like a natural progression. Its a testament
to the success of Extreme E and our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries
of whats possible. The core values remain unchanged: were still
dedicated to creating a pioneering motorsport series that emphasises sustainability,
gender equality, and thrilling competition. However, with hydrogen, were
stepping into an even more promising realm of clean energy.
Hydrogens potential is immense. Its not just about e-mobility;
its about creating green power solutions that can be applied anywhere,
from remote locations to bustling cities. By launching Extreme H, were
not only showcasing the viability of hydrogen as a fuel source but also testing
the wider hydrogen ecosystem including recharging and hydrogen transportation
as well as helping to create a market for it. This aligns with our
broader goal of reducing reliance on fossil fuels and achieving net-zero emissions.
What excites me most about Extreme H is its role in the energy transition.
Green hydrogen, which we will use, is produced using renewable energy and
emits no pollutants. This makes it the cleanest and most sustainable form
of hydrogen. By being the first motorsport championship powered by green hydrogen,
were setting a new standard and providing a unique platform for energy
companies to test and develop hydrogen solutions.
The racing itself will be just as exhilarating, if not more so. Our format,
with our action-packed racing allowing us to optimise the cars for hydrogen
use, delivering peak performance and frenetic excitement.
Fans can expect the same thrilling battles on track, now powered by cutting-edge,
sustainable technology. The learnings from Extreme E, including our pioneering
approach to gender equality with equal male and female driver participation,
will carry over and continue to define our series.
Weve seen incredible progress in closing the performance gap between
male and female drivers, leading to some of the most exciting and competitive
racing. This will continue to be a hallmark of Extreme H, alongside our commitment
to innovation and sustainability.
Partnering with organisations that share our vision for sustainability has
been crucial to our success. Their support has been instrumental in driving
the championship forward, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration
in our hydrogen future.
It was fantastic to reveal the Pioneer 25 in a special Red Bull livery at
the official launch, marking the arrival of the energy drink giant as the
championships Official Energy Drinks Partner. We are excited to partner
with a huge brand such as Red Bull for our new racing venture.
Embarking on this journey with Extreme H feels akin to the early days of Formula
E - full of adventure and uncharted territory. The key is to take that first
step, and were ready to lead the way in demonstrating the potential
of hydrogen for future mobility.
Extreme H marks a new chapter in our mission to advance e-mobility and extreme
motorsport. It symbolises our commitment to pioneering solutions in green
technology, ensuring that our championship remains at the forefront of sustainable
energy developments. We aim to remain leaders in this field, always staying
true to our values and continuing to raise awareness of the climate crisis
through the powerful platform of motorsport.
This evolution promises not only faster and more intense racing, but also
a significant step forward in exploring hydrogen as a sustainable and powerful
energy source. Its an exciting time for motorsport, and I am proud and
thankful to the whole team for their work on its development so far, and I
am thrilled to be a part of this new chapter.
The Race for the Planet is not over, its only just begun.

Helena arrives in London ahead of tomorrows Extreme H official launch
The sport-for-purpose motor racing series Extreme Es ship, St. Helena,
navigated Londons River Thames this morning (26 June) ahead of the official
unveiling of Extreme H, the worlds first hydrogen off-road racing championship
taking place aboard the ship tomorrow (27 June).
The St. Helena, which was last in London for the launch of Extreme E in January
2019, passed under the iconic Tower Bridge before mooring next to HMS Belfast,
where she will remain for the rest of the week, providing the setting for
the much-anticipated reveal of Extreme H and the hydrogen racing series
first-ever race car.
Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme H, said: Seeing the St. Helena
travel along the River Thames with our Extreme H car on-board takes me back
to the great memory of launching Extreme E five years ago in the same place,
the start of a great adventure.
We are all excited to reveal the first-ever Extreme H car and to do
so aboard the St. Helena, which is so pivotal to the success of our series
and one of the many elements which makes us as a racing championship so unique,
is going to be momentous.
We are looking forward to launching a new era for motorsport and hydrogen,
and to do so on the River Thames with the backdrop of Tower Bridge will be
a special feeling.
Extreme Es global odyssey is made possible by its floating centrepiece
and base, the St. Helena. She is used to transport the championships
freight and infrastructure, including each car competing in the series, to
the nearest port to each race location, minimising Extreme Es emissions
by 75 per cent compared to airfreight.
The former Royal Mail cargo-passenger vessel which once provided the island
of St Helena with its only freight and passenger transport links to the mainland,
underwent an extensive multi-million pound renovation process in 2020, including
a comprehensive mechanical overhaul, full refurbishment of its interior into
a VIP hospitality and hotel facility, and fresh branded Championship livery.
The official launch of Extreme H is set to redefine the future of motorsport,
as the series prepares to evolve from its electric racing roots to become
the worlds first hydrogen racing series, testing cutting-edge hydrogen
technologies in a competitive racing environment from 2025.
You can stay up-to-date with the unveiling of the pioneering hydrogen-powered
championship and first-ever Extreme H car online and via Extreme Es

E returns to Scotland Legacy Programme ahead of Hydro X Prix
With Extreme Es return to Scotland for the Hydro X Prix less than a
month away (13-14 July), the championship returned to Dumfries and Galloway
as excitement builds ahead of the series return to on-track action.
Extreme E carried out a visit to its ongoing Legacy Programme in the local
community, with Andretti Altawkilat Extreme Es Catie Munnings and E.ON
Veloce Racings Kevin Hansen in tow to get a closer look at the championships
ongoing environmental initiatives in Scotland.
The former Glenmuckloch opencast coal mine site in Dumfries and Galloway will
play host to the Hydro X Prix once more and the restored former coal mine,
which is about to undergo the next phase of its major transformation into
a Pumped Storage Hydropower (PSH) plant and wind farm, will provide a poignant
backdrop for the sport, which uses its platform to raise awareness of climate
change and global solutions.
As part of the series Legacy Programme in Scotland, Extreme E continues
to work with the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board on a multi-stage environmental
initiative focused on mitigating climate change effects upon Atlantic salmon,
highlighting issues caused by rising water temperatures and change in rainfall
patterns.
For this years Voyage, Extreme E headed to Solway Firth, where the River
Nith feeds into the Atlantic Ocean. The location underlined the importance
of the River Nith on global ecosystems, as this is where the young salmon
smolts join the ocean to travel towards the Norwegian Sea, growing from 30g
to 4000g in a year.
The work of the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board involves regenerating this
habitat, which has been impacted by climate change and human impacts. This
has involved the planting of over 1,200 native trees and building fences to
protect the river habitat, which helps to stabilise the riverbanks thus minimising
erosion and salmon egg mortality.
Supported by a class of local schoolchildren from Kelloholm Primary School,
the championship then visited the Nith District headquarters and plant nursery,
which has been funded as a direct result of Extreme Es Legacy Programme,
to observe the growth of seedlings as well as plant some of their own
which, when ready, will be transported and planted on the riverbank to benefit
the area for years to come.
The Legacy Voyage concluded with a trip to Crawick River to observe the progress
of trees planted previously by Extreme E including Munnings and Hansen.
To continue the restoration of the river bank, more trees will be planted
to ensure that the Atlantic salmon population will continue to be viable for
generations to come.
Vodafone Business, Extreme Es Official Technology Communications Partner,
has provided the Trust with hydrosensors and temperature probes to monitor
water quality and temperature. This technology supports the Trust's ongoing
conservation efforts, with Vodafone Business utilising the pioneering championship
as a testbed for innovation.
Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: It was great for
Extreme E to return to Scotland ahead of the Hydro X Prix and come back to
the environmental initiatives we put in place just over a year ago. Having
a positive, environmental impact on the areas we race in is vital, and so
to return for our latest Legacy Voyage at the River Nith was hugely important.
Our collaboration with local organisations like the Nith District Salmon
Fishery Board exemplifies our mission to leave each location in better shape
than we found it and it was brilliant to have Catie and Kevin share that with
us, especially as they both helped launched the first-ever Hydro X Prix, which
brought great continuity to the Voyage.
In addition to the environmental projects, Extreme E will participate in the
annual Kirkconnel and Kelloholm Children's Gala this weekend (15 June). The
ODYSSEY 21 race car will be on display, providing an exciting opportunity
for the community to engage with the series and learn more about the innovative
technology behind electric off-road racing.
Extreme Es presence in Kirkconnel promises to be an event of significant
environmental and social impact, reinforcing the series commitment to
sustainability and community partnership.
Extreme Es Legacy Programme is dedicated to addressing ecological challenges
in our race locations, and supporting communities impacted most by the negative
consequences of climate change. In collaboration with local grassroots organisations
across each of our race locations, the championship directly funds initiatives
that empower communities and raise awareness of climate and conservation-related
issues impacting local areas, in harmony with the global agenda set forth
by the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
Ali Russell added: Involving schoolchildren and educating future generations
about environmental conservation is crucial. Our goal is to inspire the local
community to take an active role in preserving their natural surroundings.

E returns to Scotland for Hydro X Prix in July
Following a successful debut event in Scotland last season, Extreme E
today announces its return to Dumfries and Galloway for Rounds 3 and 4 of
2024.
The championships latest visit to the popular Scottish location kickstarts
the European leg of Season 4, which will take place on 13-14 July.
The announcement of the race return was made today, Thursday 6 June, in the
shadow of the Scottish Parliament, by Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme
E, and Kate Forbes MSP, Scotlands Deputy First Minister and Cabinet
Secretary for the Economy.
Kate Forbes, Deputy First Minister, said: I am delighted that Extreme
E will be returning to Scotland this summer. Last years Hydro X Prix
brought both social and economic benefits to our communities and regional
and national economies, while providing a new and exciting platform to showcase
the countrys offer to a global audience.
Extreme E shares our ambition for sustainability, renewable energy,
gender equality and local conservation and I am confident this this years
event will once again demonstrate that Scotland can provide the perfect stage
for major, innovative international events like the X Prix.
In 2023, the former Glenmuckloch opencast coal mine site, on Queensberry Estate,
played host to two exciting races in Scotland, won by Sir Lewis Hamiltons
X44 Vida Carbon Racing outfit and E.ON Veloce Racing, respectively.
The restored former coal mine, set to undergo the next phase of its major
transformation into a Pumped Storage Hydropower (PSH) plant and wind farm,
is a project which is being developed by Foresight Group's Energy Transition
Fund (FEIP). The setting provides a poignant backdrop for the sport, which
uses its platform to raise awareness of climate change and global solutions.
Exact details of the 2024 course layout will be confirmed ahead of the upcoming
Hydro X Prix.
The Hydro X Prix in Scotland represents an exciting return home for Extreme
E, creating the opportunity to highlight climate issues and solutions that
are not just global, but also right on our doorstep.
Scotland's landscape includes rugged mountains, rolling hills, deep valleys,
and stunning coastline. The country is home to numerous lochs, rivers, and
forests, including the famous Caledonian Forest, which is one of the few remaining
ancient woodlands in Europe. Scotland also has a rich and varied wildlife
population, with species such as red deer, golden eagles, otters, and seals
found across the country.
However, Scotland's environment is not without its challenges, including issues
related to climate change, land use, and biodiversity loss, which are being
addressed through a range of conservation efforts and sustainable development
initiatives.
Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme E, said: Heading back to
the UK and Scotland for the next event of the 2024 Extreme E season is an
exciting prospect for our championship.
It was a hugely successful event last year and we cannot wait to return
to such a dramatic location for our action-packed racing series, but also
one which has sustainability values at its core. Scotland is a strong voice
in the adoption of a clean energy future and renewable energy sources, and
our Hydro X Prix marks a great opportunity to highlight these important issues
that are happening so close to home.
We are excited to race once again and get the second half of our championship
underway.
As part of the championships commitments to raising awareness of the
climate crisis, Extreme Es legacy initiatives will continue at the Hydro
X Prix.
From the impactful re-planting of over a thousand trees, to using innovative
technologies being implemented by Official Technology Partner Vodafone Business
to monitor water quality and temperatures, Extreme E will continue to focus
on a long-term transformation of the River Nith area that will protect the
salmon stocks so important to local industries.
Anna Fergusson, Estate Director at Queensberry Estate, said: We are
delighted to welcome the Extreme E team back to Queensberry Estate for races
in their 2024 season. The news of their return is exciting for Buccleuch and
the wider Dumfries and Galloway area. The 2023 races at Glenmuckloch were
thrilling and Extreme Es engagement with local young people and their
environmental project on the River Nith have left a lasting legacy. For this
years Hydro X Prix, Buccleuch will work with the Extreme E team to reach
more of the community and help them leave their positive mark on the local
area.

Championship Driver to Extreme E race winner with Klara Andersson
From taking part in an Extreme E Rookie Test to claiming her place on the
top step of the podium in only her second X Prix, Klara Andersson has had
a special journey in the series.
In an interview to mark the Season 3 Sustainability Report with EYs
findings, notably the closing performance gap between the male and female
drivers, Andersson shared her insights into the mindset of a driver striving
for success in Extreme E, battling with her on-track rivals and the role of
women in motorsport.
Extreme E: Can you tell us about your call up to Extreme E and your first
race in Chile?
Klara Andersson: I was supposed to do the Season 2 opener for XITE ENERGY
Racing as a one-off, but then I tested positive for COVID just prior to travelling.
As a result, I couldnt take part and then I became one of the series
Championship Drivers.
I was in Chile performing my Championship Driver duties ahead of the event
there, and then I got the call after Free Practice that I needed to deputise
at ABT CUPRA XE. The only time that I'd been in the car was for a couple of
laps at the Rookie Test in 2021 with the ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team and now I
was going straight into qualifying without any practice laps. But I knew that
this was my shot and that this chance might not ever come again.
It's a very, very tough series. The level is so high and so you need to really
take your chance. Fortunately, I was joining one of the best teams on the
grid and pairing up with the Dakar Rally legend, Nasser Al-Attiyah, and headed
straight into qualifying. It was amazing and in the Final we finished third
and on the podium.
That moment was just so surreal because I had felt pressure before, but in
Chile it was different. I used it as my fuel to perform, because I knew that
this was my chance, and how I could really use it as my advantage. I was hungrier
than ever to get in the car and to show that I deserve a place on this grid.
XE: Is that the proudest moment you've had in Extreme E or is there something
able to top that?
KA: My first Extreme E victory in Uruguay was the biggest moment of my career.
At that event I was also fighting for a potential contract for the following
season, so there was quite a lot of pressure. To take that win with the team
in my first full weekend was one of the proudest moments I've ever had in
my life.
XE: Do you think this championship has made opportunities in motorsport more
accessible?
KA: I think it's a great platform, especially if you come through as a Championship
Driver. I started off as one, as did Fraser [McConnell], Tamara [Molinaro]
and Jutta [Kleinschmidt]. The championship requires multiple fast women drivers
to take part in the series and I think it's a great opportunity.
If I wasnt in it, I would for sure aim for it. I would absolutely want
to get involved in Extreme E because it's the best global platform to showcase
your speed as a driver. It's such a cool championship and I'm honestly so
honoured to be a part of it and not only for the racing, but everything that
comes with it off track as well. I think it's really inspiring. The younger
women drivers competing in feeder series, in go-karts, or in cross-karts now
have a championship to aspire towards and where we need fast females to perform.
I think it's really inspiring because I've always grown up with the feeling
that gender doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if you're a female or a male,
if you're young or old, or what country you come from. You can step into that
car and drive just as quick as you possibly can. And I think it's really inspiring
to be a part of that journey.
XE: What has being involved in Extreme E done for you in terms of being able
to act as a role model for young girls coming through the industry?
KA: I think it's amazing to see what Extreme E has done for female drivers
around the world. Many of the female drivers out there I had not heard of
previously, and now I'm racing against them and trying to beat them. Some
of them are now quicker than the men, and I think it's amazing that, once
again, we have this platform to speak about and show these things, and just
to see the possibilities coming up for some of the women drivers due to Extreme
E.
For example, I've been in the World Rallycross Championship now for two years
and it's so cool to see so many women drive in the support series in RX2e
from competing in Extreme E and performing really well. I think it's amazing
that they have highlighted so many talents around the world and also that
we are up against some of the best drivers in the world. We've had Carlos
Sainz Snr. drive in the championship and we've had Sébastian Loeb.
We have had so many of these to compare ourselves to and that for me has been
so special.
I still think about last year when I raced in Sardinia and was able to sit
down and look at the data with Séb, a nine-time world rally champion.
That was pretty cool to actually compare myself to him. I think it does so
much for your confidence. Its so cool this year that we have this 50/50
split that us girls need to start 50 per cent of the races, and the men also
start 50 per cent. That changes things up so we get to go head-to-head as
well.
XE: What do you learn from getting this sort of data that, without this opportunity,
you wouldn't have been able to learn?
KA: It's unbelievable. I'm 24 and I'm still early in my career. I've only
been on the international scene for around four years. To have that data and
to exchange those experiences and just learn from them is so valuable for
me. Ten years ago, I did not have many women drivers to look up to sadly.
There weren't so many females on the international scene. And to be able to
look back and think if I was 10 years younger now and saw the women performing
as they do in Extreme E, I would feel so inspired to want to do the same.
And that I think is so important that we have these role models. Its
not only men the women can give them a run for their money as well.
XE: What do you think is the catalyst or the key aspect that is reducing the
performance gap?
KA: I think just down to the time in the car. We are into the fourth season
and many of the drivers have been there since day one, so have had significant
time in the car next to their teammates. And I think that has a lot to do
with it. The more you drive, the more confident you feel and the more you
learn. As a team, now that the level is so high, we need both drivers to perform.
It's more important than ever that both drivers are on top of it and perform
at their very best. It's so important that you learn from each other as well.
In Saudi Arabia when I drove with my new teammate, Timo Scheider, we were
working really hard with the data, and we could see in some places that I
was quicker than him. In some places, he was quicker than me. Since it's a
single-spec car, the driver does make a lot of the difference.
When I read the report last year about the split between the females and the
males in the Continental Traction Challenge I thought it was amazing. We want
to beat the other teams, but you also want to show that you are quicker than
the other driver that is in the exact same car as well. I think it's really
inspiring and I think Season 4 will close this up even further.

24-04-10 Cristina Gutiérrez
on her Extreme E journey and how the series is championing gender equality
In Extreme Es recently published Season 3 Sustainability Report with
EY, Cristina Gutiérrez was recognised as the fastest female driver
on average through the Continental Traction Challenges in 2023.
In this exclusive interview, the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team driver and Season
2 champion as part of Sir Lewis Hamilton's X44 Vida Carbon Racing squad outlines
her motorsport journey so far, the responsibility of being part of a sustainable
racing series and the importance of the championships gender-equal format.
Extreme E: What role has the championship played in your racing career to
date?
Cristina Gutiérrez: From the very beginning I knew it was a big opportunity.
I dreamt of being a driver in Extreme E because I understood the importance
of the championship and I knew there were many other aspects to it, including
gender equality.
The knowledge of the girls started on a lower level. In the beginning, you
could see a lot of difference between the men and women in seconds, but now
it is getting closer and closer, and there are times where we are even faster.
As you can see now, it is more mixed and there is more equality in the competition,
and this is good to see.
XE: The championships gender-equal format has undoubtedly provided a
greater platform for female drivers. How much of a benefit has this been for
you in terms of racing experience and other motorsport opportunities?
CG: As a woman in motorsport, Extreme E has given us confidence and it has
provided so many opportunities since I started competing in the series. When
we have confidence we can fight for another goal and another dream. After
being a part of Extreme E, I have driven much more in lots of different conditions.
I have learned a lot and I have added that to my driving style. I think I
have grown a lot since the beginning, so I think Extreme E has been great
for women.
I have been part of some of the best teams and best drivers in the world as
a result of being in this championship, and this has given me a lot of confidence.
I have won in Extreme E and the Dakar Rally in my category a lot of
good things have happened since being involved in this series. Extreme E has
been working very hard from the beginning to give opportunities to different
women. We have had so many young women in the championship. For example, Lia
Block started in Extreme E and now she is in the F1 Academy with Williams
Racing.
XE: The latest Sustainability Report with EY has shown that the performance
gap between male and female drivers has continued to close, with you recognised
as the fastest female driver on average through the Continental Traction Challenges
in 2023. Does this demonstrate that equal track time and opportunity is paying
dividends?
CG: This is the purpose of Extreme E, to show people that men and women in
motorsport can drive together and there are not a lot of sports where you
see men and women competing at the same time and at the same level, with the
same purpose. I think Extreme E in this area makes a difference compared with
other competitions.
In the last race, I was fighting Mikaela [Åhlin-Kottulinsky, Rosberg
X Racing] for the win, and seeing these battles between two women, and for
us having the opportunity to get the win for our team, I think thats
very important for the audience watching.
XE: Who was your reference point in motorsport when you were growing up?
CG: It was difficult. When I started to drive, I did not have many role models
because there were not a lot of girls competing in motor racing. I think to
have a role model is very important to the people who want to become, in my
case, a rally driver, because you can really see that it is possible to achieve.
You can see that a woman can compete as a professional driver I am
doing this, I can do it, and you can do it!
I didnt know that it was very important to me until I saw another woman
competing. María de Villota became the first woman to drive a Formula
One car for a long time, and for me this moment was very special because I
discovered that there was a woman out there doing the thing that I wanted
to do one day. I learnt a lot from watching her. She had a lot of values,
she was smiling and positive, she spoke well with the media, kids watching
on pretty much everyone. It was an inspiration for me.
XE: Do you see yourself as someone to look up to for racing stars of the future?
CG: I think, especially for the women competing in Extreme E, there is a responsibility
to be involved and help others looking to compete in motorsport. We are in
a position where we can speak, we can talk about the lives we lived in the
past, the mistakes we made, and how we can improve. These types of things
are our responsibility to make it easy for someone to become a racing driver
in the future, for example.
XE: The championship raises awareness of the climate issues affecting our
planet. Do you also believe it is a responsibility as drivers to highlight
the environmental problems in the locations the Extreme E races in?
CG: Its very nice that we can share many things like the competition
and the adrenaline on track, but also focus on sustainability off it, through
taking care of nature and trying to understand the problems around the world.
At each event we learn more about the environmental problems. I think its
a big opportunity for us to discover these issues and try to educate people
about them through social media, our communities, and explain to people the
problems that we have found affecting our planet.
XE: What are you excited about for the season ahead?
CG: I am very excited to be a part of NEOM McLaren Extreme E. For me, it is
a dream come true to be a part of this historic team and one of the biggest
in motorsport. The first time that I arrived at the MTC was a super exciting
moment that I will never forget, and I shared that moment with Mattias Ekström
as my teammate. Everyone was excited to have us in the team, and I think the
purpose of the team is very important. They can show the environmental side,
the equality side, and, they want to win, so for me its the three big
things and we are fighting for the same goals.
The team feels like a family, and this makes us more comfortable, and you
feel free to say anything and I can see us growing together. If we can win
together, it will be special. The last race was our first together and it
was nice to get on the a podium. It was a good way to start and I can feel
the team very together like a family. This is so impressive and good for us
as drivers.

YouGov figures show Extreme E's global audience continues to rise following
thrilling third season
Pioneering racing series Extreme E can reveal it delivered significant audience
growth in 2023, rising to a global audience of more than 144 million viewers,
according to the latest analytics report on the series by YouGov.
The increase in the series audience figures stems from a thrilling third
season, where a record five-teams competed for the 2023 Extreme E championship
at the final event won by Nico Rosbergs Rosberg X Racing team.
The series global audience grew by six per cent from 2022, where the
viewership stood at 135 million.
Extreme Es unique mandatory gender-equal format of one male and one
female driver per team a first in motorsport has also ensured
that the split between male and female viewers is significantly greater than
the motorsport industry average of 90 per cent males to 10 per cent females.
The Extreme E Media Results 2023 report shows that female viewership increased
once more to 34 per cent in Season 3, rising from 29 per cent in 2022.
The series short-form racing platform is recognised as a key contributor
to audience growth in Season 3, with some of the biggest teams and drivers
in motorsport battling it out wheel-to-wheel across some of the worlds
most dramatic locations.
The championships digital audience grew further still in Season 3 as
Extreme E delivered its most competitive on-track year yet. A total of 36,334
social media posts were published about the 2023 Extreme E campaign, resulting
in 2.1 billion potential impressions and 109.8 million engagements. In additional
data provided by Little Dot Studios, the series overall social media
following grew substantially from 2022, increasing by 71 per cent with a total
of 1.2 million online followers.
Across all owned and non-owned social media posts, compared to Season 2 there
was an 18 per cent increase in the number of engagements on social media.
Among the three major platforms on social media, X stood out with the highest
number of engagements and potential impressions, generating 53.7 million engagements
and 699.7 million potential impressions.
In comparison to Season 2 there was a 35 per cent increase in social media
video views, with 3,551 videos related to Extreme E posted on social media
accumulating 104.7 million views, an increase on 77.5m from the previous campaign.
Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: We are proud to announce
that Extreme Es audience has grown substantially once again following
the conclusion of Season 3. We have already got our fourth season underway
for 2024 with a spectacular opening Desert X Prix in Saudi Arabia, and we
are encouraged that the pace at which our championship is growing mirrors
that of our worldwide audience.
The popularity of Extreme E continues to grow year-on-year, and with
the launch of Extreme H on the horizon I am delighted by the wider exposure
our pioneering racing series has received. This is best demonstrated among
our dedicated fanbase and our increasing audience engagement figures.
Despite only launching in 2021, the championship is recognised as a
respected motorsport series and this latest report evidences that, particularly
in terms of audience growth on TV and via social media. We are looking forward
to increasing our audience further as our championship moves towards a new
era with another world first, our transition to hydrogen power Extreme
H and an exciting future in the years ahead.
Dr Sarah Melville, Media Director, YouGov Sport, said: Since we started
working with Extreme E in 2021 across audience trends to social media
tracking, and sponsorship valuations we have seen notable year-on-year
growth. One of our key insights from Season 3 was the level of viewer engagement
Extreme E generated and Season 4 is set to do the same.
The 144.4 million figure can be broken down as follows:
89.7 million viewers on linear TV
54.6 million watching on the championships digital platforms
These viewers were derived from a global total of 12,494 hours of programming,
with the championship shown across more than 184 broadcast markets worldwide.
The season-opening Desert X Prix, the inaugural X Prix of 2023, drew the largest
audience in the championships history with 28.2 million viewers tuning
in, making it the most-watched event
The United States, supported by outputs from Fox Sports, had the largest TV
news audience, comprising 250.1 million viewers and subsequently 50 per cent
of the total TV News audience. This audience was generated from 1,449 TV news
features, the highest number among all markets.
Recognised as a crucial growth market for the championship, Extreme E will
make its long-awaited USA debut later this year, with the Season 4 finale
to be held in Phoenix, Arizona, on 23-24 November.
Live coverage proved to be the favoured programming choice, drawing in 53.4
million viewers, which accounted for 37 per cent of the total audience. Following
closely behind were highlights packages of the championships 10 races,
attracting 43.2 million viewers, comprising 30 per cent of the total audience.
Magazine programming totalled 18.9 million viewers, comprising Electric Odyssey
broadcasts as well as Review programming.

In the opening bout of the Desert X Prix, Rosberg X Racing (RXR) and the NEOM
McLaren Extreme E Team duelled throughout a brilliant contest, with the former
taking the first win of 2024 by just 0.167s.
Reflecting on that incredible battle, RXRs Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky
and NEOM McLaren Extreme Es Cristina Gutiérrez sat down with
Extreme E to reflect on the Season 4 opener and just how it felt to be in
the middle of a thrilling fight for victory.
Extreme E: The Round 1 Grand Final was a great way to begin Season 4. Did
you go into that race expecting each other to be your biggest rival for the
win?
Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky: I think you could see in Round 1 that
all of the teams were incredibly fast. Whenever I headed out on course I knew
that everyone was going to do their best, so I also needed to do that and
bring my A game. Of course, I knew that Mattias [Ekström] and Cristina
were a very strong team but, for me, I was just focusing on heading out there
and doing my best.
Cristina Gutiérrez: You can never predict what is going to happen
in the race. Nowadays, Extreme E is at such a high level that any driver is
difficult to overtake or defend against. I think that in this case it emerged
like that, and it was a nice fight which Mikaela ended up winning.
XE: You have both raced in the series since the very beginning. How well have
you got to know each others racing style and ability behind the wheel?
MÅ-K: Weve been driving for three seasons now and shes
a really talented driver. Looking at all of the female drivers from Season
1 to now, there is so much talent out there meaning we have to bring our top
game. When you are racing against someone you watch each other and their type
of driving style, but I always try and focus on other elements such as looking
at the heats from earlier on in the day and see which overtakes worked, which
helps me try and plan for what might happen out on the track. However, anything
can happen in Extreme E, so you need to be open-minded and creative.
CG: As I say, every driver on the Extreme E grid is strong. Mikaela
and I know each other well because we both started in the series from the
beginning. She comes from a discipline that is very different from mine; she
is more used to wheel-to-wheel racing and I am more used to off-road. Today,
Mikaela is one of the best drivers on the Extreme E grid.
XE: Mikaela, when you set off from the Switch Zone in first place, were you
on the defensive from Cristina behind you or were you pushing your ODYSSEY
21 to the limit to increase the gap as the leader?
MÅ-K: Johan [Kristoffersson] was leading heading into the Switch
Zone and when I headed out I knew Cristina was going to be incredibly fast,
but I tried to focus on my lines. However, she was really close behind me.
I did some defensive moves, which led to me not having the optimal line and
speed, so I was battling between playing it safe and not making too many mistakes.
I decided to be defensive in the places where she was really close.
There was quite a lot of information from the engineering side who gave me
a heads up on where she was, plus I was looking in the mirrors, but I opted
not to take any big risks.
XE: Cristina, your teammates start was incredible, using an extra wide
line into Turn 1 to set up the undercut heading into the next corner to lead
the race. What is it like to work with him?
CG: It is great to share a team with such a great driver, in this case
Mattias. He is a person who I will always thank for being so open to sharing
things with me that he has learnt throughout his life. I will always thank
him for making me understand and learn more about motorsport - and especially
in wheel-to-wheel racing because I have never had the opportunity to learn
from someone with as much experience in this discipline as him.
XE: We saw some great overtakes from both of you in the Grand Final. How difficult
was it to execute those on the Desert X Prix course?
MÅ-K: It was really great racing in Round 1, for sure. Johan pulled
off a really nice overtake on Mattias and Cristina made that pass on me in
the closing stages. I would say in Round 1 it was easier to follow the cars
in front as the visibility and dust made things harder for Round 2.
CG: It is always difficult to overtake in Extreme E because you have
to risk many things - there is dust, holes and in the end it is not a course
where the conditions are always the same. Every time you go through a corner
the feeling is different and you have to adapt every lap. I think that the
Cristina who started in Extreme E is different to the Cristina racing right
now and I am still trying to understand, learn and read the discipline to
give the best of myself.
XE: Mikaela, you managed to keep your cool when Cristina got ahead of you
on the last lap. What was going through your head as you pushed to regain
the lead?
MÅ-K: I was caught a little bit by surprise when she overtook
me and I knew I would only have one chance to take the position back. I was
really focusing on that exit from Waypoint (WP) 13, I knew I had to line up
the car perfectly in to WP14 and out of WP15 then get a good run to WP17.
I saw that she had a little bit of a wiggle, so I thought if I brake late,
and position myself correctly, I can overtake her. I was so glad I did!
XE: Cristina, you crossed the line in second-place just 0.1 seconds behind
at the finish. How did you feel after the Grand Final?
CG: I think it was a beautiful race and I think we both felt like winners
of that race; we were pleased to see people so excited. In the end, 0.1 seconds
is a very small margin and I think what is worth more is seeing two women
at the front fighting to win the race. I felt very fast, and I was preparing
to overtake during my two laps, however Mikaela is one of the drivers who
defends well and attacks the best.
At the end of the race, we took stock with the team of how we can improve
and next time we will try not to make mistakes. In the end it was my first
race together with NEOM McLaren and there are always things that we can improve,
but we were very happy to find ourselves so competitive from the first race.
XE: Finally, Mikaela as defending champions you started this season with a
win. How confident are you heading into the next rounds with so many other
teams looking capable of fighting for wins and podiums?
MÅ-K: It was really nice to start the season with a win. We got
some good points after the first X Prix of the campaign. It was extremely
tight last year with so many teams heading into the last race being able to
win. The competition looks equally high this year with so many great teams
and drivers. It feels good to have this result, but we know we have to go
out there and do the best we can each time in order to be strong against other
teams as they are doing the same.

24-03-21 How NEOM McLaren Extreme
E delivered with its new look line-up in Saudi Arabia
The NEOM McLaren Extreme E team hit the ground running in the opening X Prix
of Season 4 in Saudi Arabia, with new driver pairing Mattias Ekström
and Cristina Gutiérrez picking up a podium in Round 1.
That thrilling first race of 2024 could so easily have been NEOM McLaren Extreme
Es maiden Extreme E win, but Ekström and Gutiérrez missed
out by just over a tenth of a second to Rosberg X Racing (RXR). A solid Round
2, taking victory in the Redemption Race, ensured NEOM McLaren Extreme E left
the Desert X Prix as one of the championships frontrunners, which bodes
well for the upcoming campaign ahead.
A strong Qualifying ensured NEOM McLaren Extreme E made it through comfortably
to the opening Grand Final of the season. Two second-place finishes in their
qualifying heats demonstrated their pace on the Saudi Arabian sands, with
Ekstrom and Gutiérrez amongst the pacesetters throughout.
NEOM McLaren Extreme E entered the Round 1 Grand Final as one of the favourites
and the team certainly lived up to that billing, battling for the win throughout
the four-lap race in an incredible wheel-to-wheel contest with RXR.
In the opening laps, Ekström and RXRs Johan Kristoffersson traded
positions. An astonishing start from Ekström, taking an unconventional
wide line into the first corner to ensure a better exit, meant the two-time
DTM champion snatched an early advantage. However, it was Kristoffersson who
gained the upper hand and the race lead as the ODYSSEY 21s entered the Switch
Zone for the driver change.
Once the on-track racing resumed, both teams were locked in combat once more
as they battled for victory. NEOM McLaren Extreme Es best result up
to that point had been second-place and they were seeking their first-ever
series win.
Despite the best efforts of Gutiérrez at the wheel, who managed to
overtake RXRs Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky for the lead in the closing
stages, the Spaniard was immediately repassed by the Swede and crossed the
finish line just 0.167s away from victory in what had been an epic encounter.
Nevertheless, a podium on their debuts for the team ensured Ekström and
Gutiérrez equalled NEOM McLaren Extreme Es best-ever result in
their first outing together.
Cristina Gutiérrez, NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team, said: I felt
really happy after Round 1. It was my first race with the NEOM McLaren Extreme
E team and working with Mattias, and we managed to finish in P2. We were able
to put together a good performance in Qualifying and get to the Grand Final.
In the Final, Mattias did a great job at the start, which helped me when I
took over.
I was battling at the front during my laps, but finished in P2 in the
end. It was a shame not to be able to bring home the win, but I think we will
be competitive this season. The team were happy, and Mattias and I are really
grateful for all the hard work and hours they are putting in.
Mattias Ekström, NEOM McLaren Extreme E team, added: We had a very
exciting first day and first race with the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team. Despite
a few small issues in Qualifying 1, we still finished P2 and we managed
to fix these problems in time for Qualifying 2. In Q2, we were more competitive,
and the Grand Final was one of the most exciting Finals I have seen in Extreme
E. We had a great start and Turn 1, and I was able to give Cristina the car
in P2. She did a really good job, battling at the front with Mikaela [Åhlin-Kottulinsky],
but we finished just behind them in P2.
It felt nice to be able to bring a trophy back to the team to reward
all their hard work.
Although Round 2 did not yield another Grand Final appearance, NEOM McLaren
Extreme E still managed to bank a strong haul of points from the Desert X
Prix.
A penalty for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON (LEGACY
M.C.) moved NEOM McLaren Extreme E up to third in their Qualifying 1 heat,
but meant there would plenty of ground to make up in Qualifying 2.
Despite leading the opening stages of their Q2 heat, they could not keep Andretti
Altawkilat Extreme E at bay and thus settled for second. The points accrued
from both heats were not enough for a Grand Final spot, but Ekström and
Gutiérrez were determined to achieve the maximum from the Round 2 Redemption
Race.
This was achieved right at the last, with Ekström snatching victory away
from LEGACY M.C.s Gray Leadbetter and claiming valuable points with
a winning margin of 0.692s.
NEOM McLaren Extreme E sit fifth in the overall standings with 30 points following
their strong start in Saudi Arabia and are just 11 points adrift off leaders
RXR.
Reflecting on her NEOM McLaren Extreme E debut, Gutiérrez said: It
was a mixed Round 2 for us as we didnt make it to the Grand Final and
had some issues being down on power, so we werent able to push as much
as we wanted to. That meant we ended up in the Redemption Race. However, we
ended up winning the race and scoring 12 points. Mattias drove really well,
managing to make up two positions during his laps to help us take the win.
Overall, considering Mattias and I are both new to NEOM McLaren, the
whole team did really well over the whole event. We have some things to improve
on before the next races, but I have full faith in the whole team and
we will continue to work hard during the break.
Ekström added: On one side, I am super happy that we were competitive
we were running at the front on Saturday and came close to the win.
In Round 2, we were still competitive but struggled with some power issues,
so werent able to fight at the top as we wouldve liked.
We ended up in the Redemption Race, which was a proper fight and we
were able to get some key points in the bag. A huge thank you to the whole
team, everyone put in a massive effort the whole week. We will come back stronger
at the next event, and I am very happy and excited for the rest of the season
with NEOM McLaren.

E launches Student Ambassadors scheme for 2024 season
Extreme E is taking two female STEM student ambassadors to all five races
on its Season 4 calendar. Supporting the championships logistics, operations
and partnerships functions, Jessica Brito and Santhiya Chandrakumar joined
the series ahead of the Desert X Prix in Saudi Arabia.
The students were recruited via the McLaren Racing 60 Scholars Programme,
an initiative McLaren launched in 2023 to encourage and support the next generation
of female leaders in STEM . Named to mark the teams 60th anniversary
last year, the programme recruited 60 aspiring female leaders of tomorrow
for an accelerated course of learning and mentorship, with the aim of opening
pathways to a career in motorsport.
The role includes directly supporting the Hospitality and Partnerships team
and will give the students exposure to the wider team producing and running
each event. This helps to develop an intimate understanding of the race format
and different responsibilities needed to execute each X Prix.
This role also leads on the guest experience within the Explorer Lounge (the
Extreme E on-site hospitality), which helps the students grow into subject
matter experts on Extreme E and the key partners, sponsors and teams that
make up the series.
A key responsibility involves running the Paddock Tours for VIP guests giving
them a behind-the-scenes look into the teams, engineering partners such as
Continental Tyres, Spark Racing Technologies, FOX suspension and broadcast
experts.
This provides the ambassadors with fantastic exposure to the racing teams
and suppliers who are operating at the highest level of motorsport, and offers
the platform to elevate their career in the industry.
Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: Supporting the next
generation is a key part of Extreme Es ethos and we are delighted to
welcome Jessica Brito and Santhiya Chandrakumar to the championship, who were
both extremely impressive in their first event in Saudi Arabia.
Supporting educational development is incredibly important to Extreme
E and were excited to have identified individuals from the McLaren 60
Scholars Programme to help give females in STEM the invaluable hands on experience
of working in motorsport.
As the students will become a vital part of the operations team, the
knowledge and experience they will gain over the 2024 season will hopefully
aid them in their goals of a career in motorsport.

24-03-13 More to come from
SUN Minimeal Team following Saudi season opener
SUN Minimeal Teams debut in Extreme E yielded much promise at the Desert
X Prix in Saudi Arabia. However, the outfit led by Timo Scheider endured a
difficult start at the Season 4 curtain raiser in Jeddah, with the German
along with team-mate Klara Andersson having to battle against multiple technical
issues throughout Rounds 1 and 2.
Despite a best finish of seventh from the first X Prix of the campaign, Scheider
and Andersson are confident the team will move quickly up the order when the
series returns for Rounds 3 and 4.
The Desert X Prix marked the teams first-ever event in Extreme E, but
in Scheider and Andersson they boasted a strong, experienced driver pairing
with race-winning pedigree amongst its ranks.
That was not enough, though, to secure a place in the Grand Final in SUN Minimeal
Teams maiden outing. Beset by technical issues, third and fourth from
their qualifying heats ensured Scheider and Andersson would have to settle
for the Redemption Race in Round 1.
Worse was to follow in the Redemption Race, with Scheider pulling over to
retire his ODYSSEY 21 after the teams reliability woes continued, ensuring
the SUN Minimeal Teams mechanics would have to work around the clock
to get the car ready for Round 2.
The whole day was jinxed, reflected Timo Scheider, SUN Minimeal
Team, after Round 1.
We were doing well as long as the car was running smoothly. There was
damage to the differential in the first qualifying session and a loss of power
in the second. We also lost power steadily in the Redemption Race until I
had to retire the car completely. It's a shame, because the whole team did
a great job on their debut and the atmosphere in the squad was awesome!
Klara Andersson, SUN Minimeal Team, added: It was a tough first day.
There was a problem in every session. In the Redemption Race, I sensed a lack
of power right from the start and was well aware we might not make it to the
finish. It was frustrating, but that's how racing can be sometimes. The positive
thing is that we could match the pace of the top teams when everything ran
normally.
SUN Minimeal Team unfortunately encountered familiar difficulties in Round
2.
Despite a great early battle with Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E, third in
Qualifying 1 was the best SUN Minimeal team could muster leaving Scheider
and Andersson with plenty of work to do as they headed into their decisive
Qualifying 2 heat.
After trading positions with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB IN ASSOCATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON
in the early stages of their Q2 heat, SUN Minimeal Team finished just off
the pace of the trio ahead of them, which ensured a spot in the Redemption
Race once again.
A third-place finish, and therefore seventh overall, in the Round 2 Redemption
Race concluded the teams debut weekend in Extreme E.
Nevertheless, Scheider and Andersson will be eager to climb up the leaderboard
when the championship returns for its European leg of the 2024 campaign in
July.
Andersson added: The weekend was really tough. The whole team is working
with maximum effort to find out what the problem was. Everyone is disappointed,
but no one is hanging their heads, no one is giving up. That makes me confident
that we will solve our problems and come back all the stronger. We'll keep
pushing!
Looking back on his first weekend as Team Principal and driver for SUN Minimeal
Team, Scheider said: I think that was the most difficult race weekend
ever for me in Extreme E. We replaced a lot of parts on the car to get to
the root of the problem. But we're not really any smarter yet.
As disappointing as the result in Saudi Arabia was, it was positive
for me to realise that the new team is already working very well. Despite
only getting one hour of sleep between rounds, everyone was fully motivated
and focused again come the Sunday. I can only thank everyone for their tireless
efforts!
After the tight, and sometimes hectic, preparation period, we will take
our time to work through the season opener and test extensively before really
getting going in July at the next X Prix. I have no doubt that the entire
team has the potential to fight for top positions in this highly competitive
field.

24-03-08 Extreme E remains
a pioneer in providing equal opportunities for female drivers
With the fourth season of Extreme E underway, in its short history the championship
has trailblazed and broken down barriers across the motorsport industry.
International Womens Day marks an opportunity to reflect on the series
pioneering nature, none more evidenced than its championing of the best women
drivers on the planet forming its grid and ensuring a level playing field
on track. The championship mandates that each team races with both a male
and female driver pairing the first gender-equal motorsport format
in the world.
Reflecting on the championships commitment to gender equality since
the series inception in 2021 Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme
E, said: We were a first in motorsport when we launched our gender-equal
sporting format. At Extreme E, we strongly believe that the most effective
combination of drivers, team, engineers and car will rise to the top
and that has been proven since the very beginning.
There is still a long way to go, but International Womens Day
is an opportunity to look back and reflect on the progress which has been
made so far. The performance between all of the drivers on the Extreme E grid
is incredibly close, and that should be attributed to the greater platform
for women drivers created by our pioneering series and there is still
more we can do.
"I am proud that Extreme E remains a leader. As a Championship, we are
hugely supportive of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
better known as the Global Goals, with Goal 5 gender equality
an important focus for the series. The key to success in Extreme E should
be solely down to talent and ability, and we as a championship will continue
to strive for gender equality."
As established in the championships most recent Sustainability Report,
which compared Season 2 median race time data with Season 1, the statistics
revealed that the woman-male performance difference had closed by a notable
26 per cent, highlighting that the gender gap can be narrowed by providing
equal access to track time and performance development opportunities.
This gap is expected to reduce further upon publication of the Season 3 Sustainability
Report next month more proof of the benefits of providing women drivers
equal track time, training and engineering preparation as their male counterparts.
Extreme E has gone one step further with its revised racing format for 2024,
ensuring that come the end of the campaign the starting drivers between men
and women must be equal across the season guaranteeing greater frequency
of men and women battling it out on track for position.
However, it is not just amongst the series driver line-up where the
championship has underlined its commitment to equality and equal opportunities.
Extreme Es Racing for All programme continues to go from strength to
strength. Informed by the findings of the Hamilton Commission Report, the
initiative aims to support opportunities for a new generation of young mechanical
and engineering talent to join the worlds most radical off-road electric
racing series, with more than half of the Extreme E grid supporting a candidate
for the season ahead.
Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, Rosberg X Racing, said: International
Women's Day is a day where we celebrate women's progress, and I'm incredibly
proud to be part of a championship that supports gender equality and sustainability.
Extreme E's unique male and female driver pairing continues to ensure a level
playing field for female drivers, and the narrowing performance gap between
genders clearly indicates our progress. I feel like I've grown and developed
so much as a driver, and the stats for all the female drivers speak for themselves.
I'm more determined than ever to push the boundaries. We're racing not
just for the thrill but for a better, more inclusive future. I hope to break
more barriers and set new benchmarks for equality in motorsports.
Klara Andersson, SUN Minimeal Team, added: I think its incredible
to see what Extreme E have done for female drivers in just a couple of years.
To have this platform to showcase our speed against some of the very best
drivers in the world is honestly a dream. Especially this year the level is
so high and its so close between every driver on the grid!
Catie Munnings, Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E, said: Im so proud
to be part of a championship that promotes significant change for women in
motorsport. From the beginning of the series to now, weve witnessed
noticeable improvements with the female drivers rapidly matching the pace
of their male counterparts. The results speak volumes - just take a glance
at the timing sheets or watch a race. Seeing women and men lining up together
and achieving results in races illustrates the progress we've made towards
equality in motorsport over the past few years.
Additionally, initiatives like the Racing for All programme have provided
invaluable opportunities for new talent in motorsport, extending beyond the
current roster of drivers and hopefully inspiring the next generation.

24-03-06 Strong
start from ASXE in Saudi Arabia
After suffering title heartbreak in the final event of the 2023 campaign,
ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team (ASXE) had to bounce back strongly in the opening
X Prix of Season 4.
With a new driver line-up of Fraser McConnell and Laia Sanz, the Spanish outfit
showed they had lost none of their speed in Saudi Arabia, taking victory in
Round 2 and leaving the Desert X Prix in second place in the overall standings.
Despite reaching both Grand Finals in Jeddah, it was not all plain sailing
for the team led by Carlos Sainz.
A roll in the Round 1 Grand Final put paid to their chances of taking victory
in the opening bout of the 2024 campaign. A difficult start from Sanz meant
the ASXE ODYSSEY 21 dropped down to fourth place, behind leaders Rosberg X
Racing (RXR), the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team and E.ON Veloce Racing.
After the driver change, McConnell got behind the wheel and rapidly closed
the gap on the cars in front as he sought a podium on his debut outing for
the Spanish outfit. Disaster struck on the final lap for ASXE, however, as
McConnell rolled whilst battling E.ON Veloce Racings Molly Taylor, which
left them unable to finish Round 1 of Season 4 and ruled out any possibility
of a podium finish.
After coming home first and third in Round 2s Qualifying Heats, the
team looked to regain some points after that Round 1 misfortune.
The team were not to be denied in the second Grand Final of the weekend, with
a strong getaway from McConnell ensuring ASXE leapt into the lead. It was
a position they would hold throughout in a statement victory for the team.
Despite Sanz coming under strong pressure from Andretti Altawkilats
Catie Munnings in the closing stages, the Spaniard held on expertly for a
first win in 2024.
Laia Sanz, ASXE, said: The opening weekend was a tough fight because
the pace is super high and everyone is improving, but I am super happy to
take this first race victory with Fraser. Winning that race was made even
more special after what happened last year in the season finale, where we
narrowly missed the title.
The team did a great job over the weekend to improve the car in each
session and we felt really quick in the Round 2 Grand Final, with enough strength
to go for the win. We are feeling strong following the first event in Saudi
Arabia. We know that the championship will be very tight, but we saw that
we have the pace to go for the win. We must keep working hard.
Fraser McConnell, ASXE, commented: "I am really happy for the team, happy
for Laia and everybody back in Jamaica. This was a big, big win. Stepping
into this team was such a huge step for me. It was a very good first weekend.
We didn't get what we wanted in Round 1, but these things can happen when
you push. We are here to win, not to be second or third, and everyone in ASXE
is doing everything they can to fulfil this goal.
I am going to enjoy this win as much as I can. It is a long break now
until the next event, but we will go through everything to analyse what we
did right and what we did wrong. We will carry the positives and work on the
negatives. It is an awesome feeling and we are ready to go for it again."
ASXE is now second in the championship standings with 39 points, trailing
leaders RXR by two after the opening X Prix of 2024. As well as the 25 points
claimed for the Round 2 victory, the team scored an additional point for winning
Sundays Qualifying 2 Heat.
Carlos Sainz, ASXE Team Advisor, added: We are very happy to take the
first race win of the season at the Desert X Prix, especially after the disappointment
we had in Round 1. The victory tasted really good and gives us plenty of hope
for the rest of the championship, which we know will be very tight.
Both Fraser and Laia did an excellent race and I am very happy for them
and for the entire team. I want to thank ACCIONA and Red Bull for their support
to keep on racing. We showed that we can fight for everything this year, so
lets go for it."

24-02-28 Double-podium
delight for E.ON Veloce Racing at Desert X Prix
Following on from third in the 2023 championship standings, E.ON Veloce Racing
secured a positive start to Season 4 as they look to build on last years
top-three result. Can the British squad continue its run of podiums, which
saw two third-place finishes at the Desert X Prix, as the team pursues its
maiden Extreme E title?
The 2024 grid is shaping up to be even more competitive than the last, with
five teams already showing signs of what it takes to reach the top of the
leaderboard. E.ON Veloce Racing are one of the few teams in familiar territory,
competing at the front for race wins and podiums once again, alongside defending
champions Rosberg X Racing (RXR) and Season 3 runners-up ACCIONA | SAINZ XE
Team (ASXE).
Molly Taylor and Kevin Hansen established themselves as a driver-pairing to
watch in 2023, taking three wins and two further podiums during their first
full campaign with E.ON Veloce Racing.
Now in their second campaign together, Hansen and Taylor hit the ground running
with two third-place finishes in the opening double-header in Jeddah, Saudi
Arabia, as the only duo to appear on both podiums at the 2024 Desert X Prix.
E.ON Veloce Racing took 33 points from the season-opener, sitting third in
the championship standings after two rounds just eight points off leaders
RXR and only six points adrift of ASXE.
Molly Taylor, E.ON Veloce Racing, said: It was a great weekend for us.
We had some fantastic battles, and it was really challenging in the dust,
but we had some amazing speed and the team have been on fire. It was really
important at this point to take some solid points in the championship, and
weve definitely started Season 4 on the right foot.
Kevin Hansen, E.ON Veloce Racing, said: The team put together an amazing
car for us. There wasnt a single problem all weekend, so it was up to
us out there to make the most of it. A special shout out to the guys in the
command centre as they did a fantastic job coaching us through the races.
At the end of the day, were super happy with a double podium to start
off the season and were up there in the title fight for sure.
Back-to-back podiums at a Desert X Prix event is not something new to E.ON
Veloce Racing. Together with Hansen and Taylor, the London-based team took
its maiden victory at the opening round of Season 3 in NEOM, Saudi Arabia,
and followed it with second-place in Round 2.
Returning to another Desert X Prix, Hansen and Taylor proved once more how
well they can adapt to the most unique terrain in the Extreme E calendar,
taking on the sands of Jeddah for the first time.
The first racing action of Season 4 saw Hansen get the best launch off the
line, which he built upon to hand Taylor a seven-second lead, which the Australian
carried across the line to secure the team's first race win of the year and
a championship point along the way.
A confident run by Taylor in Qualifying 2 kept ASXEs Fraser McConnell
and LEGACY M.C.'s Travis Pastrana within reach, which Hansen took advantage
of during his stint, securing E.ON Veloce Racing's spot in the Grand Final
with an overtake on LEGACY M.C.'s Gray Leadbetter.
In the Grand Final, Hansen slotted into third behind RXR and the NEOM McLaren
Extreme E Team as the teams battled with each other and the deepening ruts
in the course. Both Hansen and Taylor came close to the overtake, with the
latter keeping ASXE's McConnell at bay, but in the end the pair could only
keep a clean run to take the third step on the podium.
In Round 2, Qualifying 1 saw Taylor hold her own among a strong field, overtaking
NEOM McLaren XEs Cristina Gutiérrez to take third. Hansen replicated
his teammates performance, with an overtake for second place in the
Heat to cross the line just 1.6 seconds off the lead.
In Qualifying 2 Heat 1, Hansen was hot on the heels of NEOM McLaren XE's Ekström
as he slotted into second place. Taylor took first place as the teams left
the Switch Zone, but eventually lost out to Andretti Altawkilat Extreme Es
Timmy Hansen. The Australian looked to have kept second in her grasp, but
was pipped to the line in the final stages of the Heat by NEOM McLaren XE's
Gutiérrez.
After a nail-biting second qualifying session, E.ON Veloce Racing finished
on the same amount of points as NEOM McLaren XE, but a quicker time in the
Continental Traction Challenge saw Hansen and Taylor through to another Grand
Final.
Carrying that pace into the last race of the Desert X Prix double-header,
Taylor surged forward after a difficult start to take third place. Following
the driver change, teammate Hansen fended off RXRs Kristoffersson to
ensure another third-place result for E.ON Veloce Racing.
The 2024 Desert X Prix saw Taylor and Hansen demonstrate that they still have
a winning formula, and E.ON Veloce Racing will be looking to convert their
drivers pace into enough podiums to enter the record books as Extreme
E Season 4 champions.

24-02-21 Travis
Pastrana on a rollercoaster Extreme E debut at the Desert X Prix
He may have only turned the wheel of an ODYSSEY 21 in anger for the first
time on the morning of Free Practice for the Desert X Prix, but off-road racing
legend Travis Pastrana made quite the impression on his Extreme E debut.
Partnering Gray Leadbetter at LEGACY MOTOR CLUB IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE
JOHNSON (LEGACY M.C.) while Johnson was competing in the Daytona 500, Pastrana
put on a show in Rounds 1 and 2 of Season 4.
Despite being a late arrival into Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, not to mention recovering
from a recent knee replacement operation, Pastrana showed the potential of
the LEGACY M.C. outfit with two gutsy displays in the opening X Prix of the
championship, as well as supporting the exceptional development of Leadbetter
in what was also her maiden Extreme E weekend.
Although unable to reach a Grand Final at the Desert X Prix, not to mention
defeat long-time adversary Mattias Ekström (well get to that!),
Pastrana revelled in his first Extreme E event. Heres the thoughts of
the man himself reflecting on LEGACY M.C.s first-ever X Prix in the
series.
Extreme E: Welcome to Extreme E, Travis! Can you tell us about the moment
you got the call to come and join the series in Saudi Arabia?
Travis Pastrana: I got the call from Jimmie not too long ago, actually. He
said, hey, I really want to do something off-road and something in Extreme
E, and there might be an opportunity to join. Were fairly good
friends, but were either doing something together or our lives are years
apart and we are in different worlds. So when he called, I figured that means
that its serious and to count me in. I said that if you can make it
happen Ive got that weekend off. Well, I was meant to be on family vacation,
but I said Ill go!
Because the big picture of this, for LEGACY M.C. in particular, is huge for
motorsport and its huge for off-road in general.
XE: What did you know of Extreme E beforehand as well as the drivers that
compete in it?
TP: Im a huge fan of racing. I come across as a little goofy sometimes,
but Im just like a kid in a candy shop when I go to races. I knew Jimmie
wasnt going to do this without a proper team and theyve exceeded
everyones hope.
It is a very friendly paddock, too. It is the first time I have gotten to
spend time with a few of them, especially some of the women drivers, while
some I know from competing in Nitrocross. The two drivers that I dont
get to race a lot of the time are Johan Kristofferson and Mattias Ekström
and I have to say that going up against Ekström was kind of the cherry
on top for me to compete maybe that was the sweetener!
XE: The series has a pioneering gender-equal racing format, which is unique
in motorsport. What are your thoughts on that aspect to the championship?
TP: There is no reason why a woman cannot be better than a male driver in
cars. Its not a physical thing, its an experience thing. As a
father with two girls I think its awesome theres so many
opportunities to get girls into karts and buggies, and it brings the whole
family closer instead of what used to happen in motocross where the
fathers and the sons would go, and now its the fathers, daughters, mums
and sons, too. Everyone is coming together across motorsport, however Extreme
E is the first series to really show that.
In one of the races I was second trying to close Mikaela [Åhlin-Kottulinsky]
down and I could not get near her. There has definitely been a massive improvement
from the first year of Extreme E to now, four seasons in, regarding the pace
of the women drivers, which has been astronomical. More women are now not
only getting the chance to race in Extreme E, but test themselves in other
cars and championships, boosting their skills on a track and off-road
thats cool.
XE: How quickly were you able to get dialled into the LEGACY M.C. ODYSSEY
21 and the series racing format?
TP: Theres so much to contend with in this championship and thats
undoubtedly where drivers like Ekström and Kristofferson, and the teams
that are winning, are dialled in on those processes and make limited mistakes.
From my perspective, driving the car on the second lap is about as good in
a vehicle as Im going to get in anything, and the last few seconds of
a lap come from not necessarily taking chances, but being willing to go and
to drive on the edge. I was driving on two wheels for half of the track!
A big thing, though, was not crashing the car for Jimmie. He hasnt said
that out loud, but you dont want a big shunt in your opening weekend
competing in this series. Nevertheless, in Round 2 we were close to the Grand
Final, and so I turned up a little bit of the risk within reason, of
course. We knew what we had to do and the risk was going to be the pay-out.
It was close. We had a shot as a team to be in there and we were gutted to
just miss out.
XE: What did you make of Grays Extreme E debut?
TP: Her progress has been incredible. In Round 1, as soon as Kevin Hansen
passed her, she didnt panic and just put her foot down in the dust
she turned in some of the fastest sectors from the women all day. That takes
guts.
And then in Round 2, it took Kristofferson a lap to get around her. I mean
hes arguably the best driver in this discipline in the entire world.
Ive jumped in everything in terms of racing, so getting into a new vehicle
or an ODYSSEY 21 isnt an excuse because Ive seen most things,
but Gray is just 19. Shes so new. Shes done a lot, of course,
but is still learning. I am so proud of her and how well shes done on
her first weekend in the series.
XE: Do you think the appetite for Extreme E in the US will grow as result
of LEGACY M.C. joining the series?
TP: A big reason that Im over here now is that I feel that this series
is helping off-road racing to grow, and its helping bridge the gap for
electric. My Dads generation would say that if it doesnt make
noise and burn gas, its difficult. However, there is so much quality
in the field in Extreme E, and now we have the likes of Jimmie Johnson involved,
so its building momentum.
What the series has going for it, too, is a lot of great racing. The Round
1 Grand Final was exceptional it was one of the best races Ive
ever seen in my whole life. When people see the racing as good as it is, that
helps a lot in terms of converting people to electric and sustainable racing.
From there, they can then see its way faster than they first thought.
Green technologies and power aside, we have to show that it can be as exciting
or more exciting than what people may know. That last part is key and then
people will be hooked.
There is definitely a gap to be bridged in motorsport. Extreme H and hydrogen
development is also going to be a great thing going forward. My kids dont
want to touch anything with gas. They love electric bikes because they can
go out in anyones back yard if they have an acre and run around
even when they are at a barbeque or something like that. I couldnt do
that as a kid because the bikes were too loud, so the change is coming.
XE: On reflection, how would you sum up your Extreme E debut?
TP: Its exceeded my expectations. As far as the excitement in the ODYSSEY
21 goes, you can really race and you have a big desert or terrain to really
do it in, of course, rather than a narrower circuit. It challenges the car
and it challenges the drivers. It is a really cool championship.
XE: Would you like to give it another go this season (and beyond!)?
TP: Absolutely! I really hope to have another opportunity to do this again
this year with a knee that can get in and out of the car and also to
come back with a little more knowledge!
I was also so close to ticking off that bucket list item of beating Mattias
[Ekström]. We were just 0.6s off in that last Redemption Race and so
I would absolutely love another shot at it.

ASXE take Round 2 victory in Jeddah to conclude Extreme E Desert X Prix
ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team (ASXE) took their first win of the season in Round
2 of the Desert X Prix.
Fraser McConnell and Laia Sanz brought home the victory for the Spanish outfit,
holding off Andretti Altawkilat's Timmy Hansen and Catie Munnings who enjoyed
a welcome return to form.
E.ON Veloce Racing finished third once more in Saudi Arabia securing back-to-back
podiums ahead of Rosberg X Racing (RXR) who rounded out the order in the Round
2 Grand Final.
The result moves ASXE up to second in the drivers standings, two points adrift
of RXR who head the leaderboard with E.ON Veloce Racing completing the top-three
positions.
Fraser McConnell, ASXE, said: I am really happy for the team, happy
for Laia and everybody back in Jamaica. This is a big, big win. Stepping into
this team was such a huge step for me. So many other people could have had
the opportunity, but I was chosen by Carlos and the team to be here. They
saw something in me, they believed in me, and this gave me so much confidence
to dig as deep as I could. I am living this opportunity as if it is my last,
making sure I can make a name for myself and the team. Carlos has been a hero
of mine growing up, so racing for him is such a feeling. It has been a very
good first weekend.
Yesterday we didn't get what we wanted, but these things can happen
when you push. We are here to win, not to be second or third, and everyone
in ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team is doing everything they can to fulfill this goal.
I am going to enjoy this win as much as I can. It is a long break now until
the next round, but we will go through everything to analyze what we did right
and what we did wrong. We will carry the positives and work on the negatives.
Awesome feeling and ready to go for it again.
Laia Sanz, ASXE, said: I am super happy. This weekend was a tough fight
because the pace is super high and everyone is improving, but I am super happy
to take this first race victory with Fraser. Winning this race is made even
more special after what happened last year in the season finale, where we
narrowly missed the title. The team has done a great job this weekend to improve
the car in each session and we felt really quick in the Grand Final, with
enough strength to go for the win.
We are feeling well as we leave Saudi Arabia. We know that the Championship
will be very tight, but today we saw that we have the pace to go for the win.
Today we proved it. We must keep working hard.
The start was always going to be crucial in the Round 2 Grand Final, and it
was ASXEs McConnell who got the best launch of all to lead out of the
first turn. It was an advantage the Jamaican never surrendered, putting ASXE
in prime position to take the victory in his debut X Prix for the team.
Behind McConnell, Andretti Altawkilat Extreme Es Timmy Hansen settled
into second place as RXRs Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky and E.ON Veloce
Racings Molly Taylor traded positions, with the Australian eventually
coming out on top for the British outfit.
That was how the order stayed as the teams headed towards the Switch Zone
for the driver change after two laps.
When the ODYSSEY 21s emerged, ASXEs Sanz was immediately under huge
pressure from Andretti Altawkilats Munnings. Try as she might, however,
the Briton could not get ahead, with Sanz defending expertly to maintain the
lead.
And the Spaniard held her nerve to take ASXEs first win of Season 4
in front of a jubilant Carlos Sainz Snr, with second place for Andretti Altawkilat
ensuring their first podium since the Island X Prix last summer.
Behind them, E.ON Veloce Racings Kevin Hansen and RXRs Johan Kristoffersson
duelled for the final podium slot, with the former coming out on top to secure
a second third-place finish in as many days, and ensuring both Hansen brothers
finished on the podium.
Nico Rosbergs outfit had to settle for fourth after taking Round 1 honours
yesterday, but still head the championship standings after the opening X Prix
of the 2024 campaign.
Earlier today, the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team secured crucial points with
victory in the Redemption Race, sealing the win by overtaking series debutants
LEGACY MOTOR CLUB IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON in the closing stages.
Timmy Hansen, Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E, said: It was a tough battle,
especially off the start. My plan was not to do what I did, but I managed
to get a launch which was better than expected and I did not see any one.
But then Fraser [McConnell] got past me and I had to make sure I kept second
position.
Fraser and I kept our heads down, and pushed as hard as we could to
give our team-mates a good headstart after the driver change. I tried my best
to close the gap, but it was so bumpy and dusty in the Grand Final.
Catie Munnings, Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E, said: Its fantastic
to start the year with a podium, I always think the start of the season sets
the tone for the rest of the year. We definitely had the pace and we were
unlucky with our quali draw yesterday, which meant that we didnt make
it to the final, so it was really nice to redeem ourselves today. I think
we had the pace to win but I think well save that one for later in the
year!
Kevin Hansen, E.ON Veloce Racing, said: The team put together an amazing
car for us. There wasnt a single problem all weekend, so it was up to
us out there to make the most of it. A special shout out to the guys in the
Vodafone Business Command Centre as they did a fantastic job coaching us through
the races. At the end of the day, were super happy with a double podium
to start off the season and were up there in the title fight for sure.
Molly Taylor, E.ON Veloce Racing, said: It has been a great weekend
for us. We had some fantastic battles and it was really challenging in the
dust, but we had some amazing speed and the team have been on fire. It was
really important at this point to take some solid points in the championship,
and weve definitely started Season 4 on the right foot.

24-02-18 SUN Minimeal experiences
an instructive debut
Difficult second day of racing for the SUN Minimeal Team with Timo Scheider
and Klara Andersson at the Extreme E season opener in Saudi Arabia.
Wolfhalden, 18.02.2024. The second day of the Extreme E 2024 season opener
in Saudi Arabia also fell into the "lesson" category for the new
SUN Minimeal Team. As on the previous day, team boss and driver Timo Scheider
(45) as well as his Swedish team mate Klara Andersson (23) set a promising
pace on the selective desert circuit not far from Jeddah. However, technical
problems, particularly in the area of the engines, once again prevented the
new team led by two-time DTM champion Scheider from achieving a top position
on their debut.
After 7th place in qualifying, Scheider got off to a strong start in the 'Redemption
Race', which had to be abandoned after a competitor had rolled over. Thanks
to the high safety standards of the battery-electric ODYSSEY21 prototype,
the spectacular incident fortunately ended without any serious consequences.
After the restart, Scheider handed over the SUN Minimeal car in second place
to team partner Andersson, who had to admit defeat to two-time DTM champion
and former rallycross world champion Mattias Ekström after a fierce fightback.
In the end, the SUN Minimeal team finished seventh overall.
"I think that was the most difficult race weekend ever for me in Extreme
E," admitted Timo Scheider. "We replaced a lot of parts on the car
to get to the root of the problem. But we're not really any smarter yet. As
disappointing as the result here in Saudi Arabia was, it was positive for
me to realize that the new team is already working very well. Despite only
getting one hour of sleep last night, everyone was fully motivated and focused
again today. I can only thank everyone for their tireless efforts!"
"The weekend was really tough," sighed Klara Andersson. "The
whole team is working with maximum effort to find out what the problem was.
Everyone is disappointed, but no one is hanging their heads, no one is giving
up. That makes me confident that we will solve our problems and come back
all the stronger. We'll keep pushing!"
The Extreme E teams now await a longer break until the second showdown of
the season onJuly 13/14. The European venue is yet to be announced. Team boss
Scheider's timetable: "After the tight and sometimes hectic preparation
period, we will take our time to work through the season opener and test extensively
before really getting going in July. I have no doubt that the entire team
has the potential to fight for top positions in this highly competitive field."

i NEOM McLaren.
segern. Extra kul att kunna vinna under sådan press, sammanfattar Kristoffersson.
Andra dagen började precis lika bra för RXR. Seger i såväl
24-02-18 RXR top nail-biting
Round 2 Qualifying at the Extreme E Desert X Prix
Defending champions and Round 1 winners Rosberg X Racing (RXR) continue their
dominant run, coming out on top in Qualifying in the second round Season 4
the Desert X Prix in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Nico Rosbergs outfit continued where they left off yesterday, with Mikaela
Åhlin-Kottulinksy and Johan Kristoffersson winning both of their Qualifying
Heats to top the standings as they did in the opening round, securing a spot
in the Round 2 Grand Final.
ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team (ASXE), who ended Round 1 with a DNF in the Grand
Final, enter the top four once more. The Spanish outfit took honours in Qualifying
1 Heat 2, and third place in their next qualifying Heat was enough to see
the team through.
While Andretti Altawkilat just missed out on the Heat win in the first qualifying
session behind ASXE, Catie Munnings and Timmy Hansen executed the perfect
comeback in Qualifying 2 to win their first Qualfiying Heat of Season 4. This
sees the team through to the Grand Final following a Redemption Race win in
Round 1.
After a nail-biting Qualifying 2, E.ON Veloce Racing and NEOM McLaren Extreme
E Team finished level on points, but a quicker time in the Continental Traction
Challenge sees Kevin Hansen and Molly Taylor through to Grand Final where
theyll look to top third-place in Round 1 for E.ON Veloce Racing.
Round 1 runners-up NEOM McLaren XE, along with the three remaining teams,
will fight it out in the Redemption Race for valuable championship points.
Qualifying 1 Heat 1
LEGACY MOTOR CLUB WITH JIMMIE JOHNSONs (LEGACY M.C.) Travis Pastrana
snatched the lead at the start of Heat 1, ahead of yesterdays top-three
teams RXR, E.ON Veloce Racing, and NEOM McLaren.
The off-road racing legend continued to extend his advantage, taking a lead
of seven seconds into the Switch Zone. Disaster struck for the all-new American
outfit, though, as the team was awarded a 17-second penalty for a Switch Zone
infringement.
LEGACY M.C.s Gray Leadbetter still maintained track position as the
teams exited the Switch Zone. After a valiant defensive effort, the 19-year-old
was passed by RXRs Kristoffersson heading into the final lap, and dropped
back to third on track as Hansen moved E.ON Veloce Racing up to second.
Leadbetter managed to keep ahead of NEOM McLaren XEs Mattias Ekström
as the teams crossed the finish line at the end of the Heat, but the Round
1 runners-up moved ahead of LEGACY M.C. following the latters time-penalty.
Qualifying 1 Heat 2
ASXEs Fraser McConnell made the best start in Heat 2, leading the pack
after the first turn as SUN Minimeal Teams Timo Scheider and Andretti
Altawkilat Extreme Es Hansen battled for second, with JBXEs Dania
Akeel close behind.
The pair fought hard throughout the opening two laps, making contact as they
jockeyed for position, but it was Hansen who eventually came out on top to
move Andretti Altawkilat into second place. Following the driver change, Catie
Munnings was right on Laia Sanzs tail throughout the last two laps,
but the Briton could not get past and the Spaniard claimed the all-important
Heat 2 victory for ASXE.
Klara Andersson brought home the SUN Minimeal Team ODYSSEY 21 in third place,
with Andreas Bakkerud rounding out the order for JBXE in fourth.
Qualifying 2 Heat 1
Another strong start from Ekström saw the NEOM McLaren XE car undercut
the rest of the pack, and a quick deployment of the ENOWA Hyperdrive after
Turn 1 saw the Swede leading the pack into Turn 2. Close behind E.ON Veloce
Racings Hansen kept Andretti Altawkilats Munnings and JBXEs
Bakkerud in his mirrors as he set off in pursuit of Ekström.
Munnings kept the leading pair within reach throughout her stint, giving her
teammate Hansen just two seconds to overcome as he chased down NEOM McLaren
XEs Gutierréz and E.ON Veloce Racings Taylor further upfield,
as the Australian jumped ahead of Gutiérrez with a slick driver change
in the Switch Zone.
Hansen had to fight hard to make it past Gutierréz, as the Spaniard
shut the door on the Andretti Altawkilat driver multiple times throughout
the opening lap. Some clever manoeuvering from Hansen soon secured the overtake,
though, and the Swede carried that pace in pursuit of Taylor, soon executing
the undercut to take first from E.ON Veloce Racing.
NEOM McLaren XEs Gutierréz, determined to see her team through
to another Desert X Prix Grand Final, managed to get ahead of E.ON Veloce
Racings Taylor with a late move before the finish line. Gutierréz
may have stolen second-place in the Heat by 0.4 seconds, but they were unable
to steal E.ON Veloce Racings spot in the Grand Final. Fourth in the
Heat for JBXE means they join NEOM McLaren XE in the Redemption Race.
Qualifying 2 Heat 2
SUN Minimeal Teams Andersson was quickest off the line, but it was RXRs
Kristoffersson who took the early lead, using the favoured inside line through
the opening corner. The Swede was followed by ASXEs Sanz, who used the
same tactics to get ahead of Andersson and Leadbetter in the LEGACY M.C. car.
Andersson and Leadbetter were side-by-side over the first set of jumps, but
it was the young American who secured third place for the opening lap. Up
ahead, ASXEs Sanz kept Kristoffersson in her sights, giving RXRs
Åhlin-Kottulinksy only a five-second advantage ahead of ASXEs
McConnell.
Following the driver change, LEGACY M.C.s Pastrana entered attack mode,
pushing his ODYSSEY 21 to its limit. The car bucked onto two wheels repeatedly
as Pastrana hunted down ASXEs McConnell, and the American was the first
of the group to use his ENOWA Hypderdrive to close the gap enough to soon
take second-place.
Åhlin-Kottulinsky crossed the line first, completing another dominant
Qualifying for Nico Rosbergs outift. Third place for McConnell proved
enough for ASXE to complete the Round 2 Grand Final line-up, while LEGACY
M.C. and the SUN Minimeal Team will be battling for a Redemption Race win
and the coveted 12 championship points that come with it.

Bad luck at SUN Minimeals strong debut
The SUN Minimeal Team with Timo Scheider and Klara Andersson put
in a good performance at the Extreme E season start in Jeddah despite problems.
Wolfhalden, 14.02.2024. The SUN Minimeal Team put in a solid race debut at
the opening round of the Extreme E 2024 season, the Desert X Prix in Saudi
Arabia. On the first day of the desert spectacle at the gates of Jeddah, driving
team boss Timo Scheider (45) and his Swedish team partner Klara Andersson
(23) put in a promising performance, but were slowed down several times by
technical problems with their 550 hp ODYSSEY21 battery-electric SUV prototype.
On the approximately 3.3-kilometre race track on the shores of the Red Sea,
the German-Swedish duo finished sixth in the combination of the two qualifying
races, narrowly missing out on a place in the grand final of the top four.
In the "Redemption Race", Scheider was in third place after taking
over from Andersson and was steadily catching up towards local driver Dania
Akeel, when the rear engine on the SUN Minimeal car broke down.
"The whole day was jinxed," sighed Timo Scheider. "We were
doing well as long as the car was running smoothly. There was damage to the
differential in the first qualifying session and a loss of power in the second.
We also lost power steadily in the Redemption Race until I had to retire the
car completely. It's a shame, because the whole team did a great job on their
debut and the atmosphere in the squad is awesome! I hope we've used up the
bad luck for the whole season today and I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
"It was a tough first day," added Klara Andersson. "There was
a problem in every session. In the Redemption Race, I sensed a lack of power
right from the start and was well aware we might not make it to the finish.
Frustrating, but that's how racing can be sometimes. The positive thing is
that we can match the pace of the top teams if everything goes normally. So
it's time to keep our heads down and attack again tomorrow!"
On Sunday the SUN Minimeal Team will have another chance to make an electrifying
appearance in the Arabian desert. The qualifying sessions (from 06:00 CET)
and final races (from 13:00 CET) on the second day of racing can also be seen
via live stream on Facebook or YouTube or via the official series website.
24-02-17 Rosberg X Racing win
epic opening round of Season 4
Rosberg X Racing win epic opening round of Extreme E Season 4 in Jeddah
Defending champions Rosberg X Racing (RXR) secured a dramatic victory in Round
1 of the 2024 campaign, coming out on top in an incredible battle with the
NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team at the Desert X Prix.
In a race which featured multiple changes for the lead, it was RXRs
Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky who took the glory
in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, defeating the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team's duo
of Mattias Ekström and Cristina Gutiérrez by just 0.167s.
Johan Kristoffersson, RXR, said: Today was a great day. The course was
very fast and bumpy, but Mikaela did a great job, and Im super happy
to be back on top! Looking forward to doing it again tomorrow!
Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, RXR, said: Starting this season with
a win feels incredible. Johan handed over the car in a good position, but
the competition was intense - especially my battle with Cristina. I was very
happy to make the overtake and take the win.
RXR and NEOM McLaren Extreme E battled throughout for victory, trading places
on a number of occasions as the 2024 season started in style.
Ekström took the lead at the start after a brilliant switch-back manoeuvre
on fellow Swede Kristoffersson, before the latter re-took first place to give
RXR a slender advantage after the opening two tours. E.ON Veloce Racings
Kevin Hansen was close behind in third, making it a three-way scrap for the
win.
The order was maintained after the driver change, with Gutiérrez trying
everything to get past Åhlin-Kottulinsky to take a maiden win for NEOM
McLaren Extreme E on her debut for the team.
In third, E.ON Veloce Racings Molly Taylor kept a watching brief, while
catching all three was ASXEs Fraser McConnell. The Jamaicans progress,
though, came to an abrupt end after rolling his ODYSSEY 21 in an attempt to
get past Taylor in the closing stages.
The momentum swung back and forth between Gutiérrez and Åhlin-Kottulinsky
for victory, with contact between the two incurring bodywork damage for the
latter as the RXR driver defended her leading position.
Gutiérrez, though, finally made the crucial breakthrough with a decisive
move to snatch the lead for NEOM McLaren Extreme E.
That was not the last of the action, however, as Åhlin-Kottulinsky demonstrated
her and the teams championship-winning credentials, re-taking first
place almost immediately for Nico Rosbergs outfit.
The Swede held on expertly to take the first win of the season for RXR, with
NEOM McLaren Extreme E just behind in second place, where they were joined
on the podium by E.ON Veloce Racings Hansen and Taylor.
Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E took the honours in the Redemption Race after
a strong drive from Catie Munnings and Timmy Hansen, while LEGACY MOTOR CLUB
IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSONs Travis Pastrana put on a show to
go from last to second at the teams first-ever Extreme E X Prix, ahead
of JBXE and fellow newcomers SUN Minimeal Team.
Cristina Gutiérrez, NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team, said: Im
feeling happy after today's race with the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team. It
was my first race with the team and working with Mattias, and we managed to
finish in P2. We were able to put together a good performance in Qualifying
and get to the Grand Final. In the Final, Mattias did a great job at the start,
which helped me when I took over.
I was battling at the front during my laps, but finished in P2 in the
end. It was a shame not to be able to bring home the win, but I think we will
be competitive this season. The team are happy, and Mattias and I are really
grateful for all the hard work and hours they are putting in. I am very happy
to be with NEOM McLaren, and I am looking forward to tomorrow.
Mattias Ekström, NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team, said: We had a very
exciting first day and first race with the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team. Despite
a few small issues in Qualifying 1, we still finished P2 and we managed
to fix these problems in time for Qualifying 2.
It feels nice to be able to bring a trophy back to the team to reward
all their hard work, and Im looking forward to going again tomorrow
for Round 2.
Molly Taylor, E.ON Veloce Racing, said: We have all worked so hard in
the build-up to this season, and we were feeling good going into this weekend.
Kevin and I were really hitting our stride in Qualifying, but it just wasn't
coming together for us in the Final.
The whole set-up at within the team continues to be exactly what we
both need to take X Prix wins, and we know that if we can just bring the pieces
together tomorrow then we'll be on top of the podium.
Kevin Hansen, E.ON Veloce Racing, said: Another podium at a Desert X
Prix! This race seems to always prove special for us as a team, and it feels
great to kick off Season 4 with a podium. We were unlucky not to finish higher
in the Final, but we should be proud of the pace we showed out there. Taking
a Heat win and setting the quickest time in the Traction Challenge puts us
second in the standings, and we'll be looking to jump to the top tomorrow.
Round 2 of Extreme E Season 4 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, takes place tomorrow
(18 February). The racing action will be live across ITV and STV in the UK,
while outside of the UK please visit here for broadcaster details.

X Racing top Qualifying in opening round of Season 4
Defending champions Rosberg X Racing (RXR) have carried their title-winning
pace into 2024, coming out on top in Qualifying for Round 1 of the Desert
X Prix in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky have continued their
successful partnership, this time taking the win in both of their Qualifying
Heats to top the timesheets and make it into the first Grand Final of the
season.
E.ON Veloce Racing and the ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team (ASXE), who made up the
championship top three with RXR last year, carried that momentum with them
into Round 1 of 2024, each taking a Heat win to secure a spot in the Grand
Final.
Rounding out the first Grand Final line-up of Season 4 are NEOM McLaren Extreme
E Team. New teammates Cristina Gutiérrez and Mattias Ekström showed
consistency on their debuts for the British squad, taking second place in
both of their Qualifying Heats.
The remaining four teams will fight it out in the Redemption Race with even
more at stake, as a change to the points system for Season 4 will see the
winner awarded the same championship points as last place in the Grand Final.
Qualifying 1 Heat 1
E.ON Veloce Racings Kevin Hansen got the best launch, taking the lead
at the first turn. NEOM McLarens Mattias Ekström slotted into second,
with JBXEs Andreas Bakkerud and SUN Minimeal Teams Klara Andersson
in fourth.
While Hansen pulled seven seconds ahead of the pack, Andersson began to pressure
Bakkerud for third as the teams headed into the Switch Zone. Taylor continued
out in front throughout her two-lap run, with NEOM McLarens Cristina
Gutiérrez maintaining second place.
An issue in the Switch Zone dropped JBXE down to fourth, with Timo Scheider
taking third place on his debut as driver and Team Principal for SUN Minimeal
Team. JBXEs Dania Akeel, in her maiden Extreme E Qualifying Heat at
her home event, rounded out the order.
Qualifying 1 Heat 2
A great overtake from RXRs Kristoffersson around the outside of Andretti
Altawkilat Extreme Es Catie Munnings, who got the better launch, ensured
the Season 3 champions took the lead after the opening turn.
Munnings held second ahead of Gray Leadbetter for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB IN ASSOCIATION
WITH JIMMIE JOHNSONS (LEGACY M.C.), with ASXEs Laia Sanz in fourth
after a near-roll at the first corner. Sanz quickly got ahead of Leadbetter
to begin ASXEs recovery up the order, and a battle ensued between the
Spaniard and Briton Munnings ahead.
Kristoffersson maintained a comfortable gap as the teams entered the Switch
Zone for the driver change, with Åhlin-Kottulinsky preserving that advantage
to win the Heat.
Andretti Altawkilat took second as Timmy Hansen stayed ahead of ASXE debutant
Fraser McConnell, with LEGACY M.C.s Travis Pastrana fourth in his first-ever
racing run in the ODYSSEY 21.
Qualifying 2 Heat 1
ASXEs McConnell surged round the outside of the group to take the lead
through the first corner. Behind the Jamaican, LEGACY M.C.s Pastrana
took second as E.ON Veloce Racings Taylor ran wide, with JBXEs
Akeel slotting into fourth.
The teams entered the Switch Zone in this order but, following the driver
change, E.ON Veloce Racings Hansen set off to hunt down Leadbetter,
in what was the Americans third-ever racing lap in the LEGACY M.C. ODYSSEY
21.
Hansen was quicker over a crest towards the end of their first lap, carrying
his pace through the next two corners to secure second place, putting E.ON
Veloce Racing alongside rivals RXR in the Grand Final.
First place in the Heat for ASXE proved enough for the 2023 runners-up to
make it into the first Grand Final of Season 4 after a third place finish
in their first Qualifying Heat. Third and fourth for LEGACY M.C. and JBXE,
respectively, puts both teams into the Redemption Race.
Qualifying 2 Heat 2
SUN Minimeal Teams Scheider led at the start, while Andretti Altawkilats
Hansen took second by passing RXRs Åhlin-Kottulinsky at Turn 2.
NEOM McLarens Gutiérrez ran in fourth as the group remained close
through the opening lap.
Hansens charge continued, as the Swede eventually got the better of
Scheider to take the lead, but the pack bunched up once more as the chasing
drivers hit the brakes late into the Switch Zone. A smooth driver change saw
RXR climb to second place. Kristoffersson, reading the situation well, used
his ENOWA Hyperdrive at the Switch Zone exit to get ahead of Andretti Altawkilats
Munnings and get in front.
This jump up the order into top spot saw RXR take the Heat win and first place
in the Qualifying standings. Slightly further back, NEOM McLarens Ekström
was also on the charge, and soon secured second place and a spot in the Grand
Final for his new team.
Andretti Altawkilat and SUN Minimeal Team, having both had a share of the
lead, only secured enough points for a spot in the Redemption Race despite
showing good pace.
The Extreme E Season 4 opener in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, gets underway this
weekend (17-18 February). The racing action will be live across ITV and STV
in the UK, while outside of the UK please visit here for broadcaster details.

ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team quickest out of the blocks as Season 4 gets
SAINZ XE Team topped the timesheets in Free Practice for the 2024 Desert X
Prix, the curtain raiser for Extreme E Season 4 held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
this weekend (17-18 February).
The pioneering racing series kicked off its fourth instalment earlier today,
with Rounds 1 and 2 of the championship set to get underway tomorrow in the
Saudi Arabian desert.
The ODYSSEY 21s were back in action for the first time in 2024, and it was
ASXE who were quickest out of the blocks across the days two Free Practice
sessions, with Rosberg X Racing and Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E in second
and third, respectively.
The sessions almost marked the first time Americans Travis Pastrana and Gray
Leadbetter got out on the course behind the wheel of the LEGACY MOTOR CLUB
IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON ODYSSEY 21, while Saudi Arabia national
Dania Akeel also drove in Extreme E for the first time ahead of making her
full debut for Jenson Buttons JBXE at her home event.
Johan Kristoffersson, Rosberg X Racing, said: The modifications to the
course and the competitive format mean that every decision, every second,
counts more than ever. Our victory last season has set a high bar, but together
with Mikaela and the whole RXR team, I feel we're ready for another great
season.
Timmy Hansen, Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E, said: The first race of
the season is coming up and it's always a very exciting one with everybody
starting again on equal terms with zero points. The team has been in Saudi
earlier than usual before the race to prepare the car to make sure its
in perfect condition to start the new season.
We're very excited to start afresh and were determined to get
on the podium, especially with the event being a home race for
our friends at Altawkilat. Exciting times ahead for us in the fourth season
of Extreme E and were hoping it will be a big one.
Cristina Gutiérrez, NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team, said: Im
really excited to go racing with the NEOMMcLaren Extreme E Team. I cant
wait to start working with everyone and represent the team and the iconic
papaya colour.
The races in Saudi Arabia in previous seasons have been very different,
and this year will be too with the new track in Jeddah. I hope we can get
the season off to a good start with some points.
Molly Taylor, E.ON Veloce Racing, said: Weve put the hard work
in throughout the off-season as we prepare for the start of the Extreme E
season, including a few days of desert-driving in Saudi Arabia ahead of the
opening rounds in Jeddah this weekend.
We have some great memories from the Desert X Prix last year, and we
are confident that we can be leading from the front this weekend to start
Season 4 with a win or two.
The Extreme E Season 4 opener in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, gets underway this
weekend (17-18 February). The racing action will be live across ITV and STV
in the UK, while outside of the UK please visit here for broadcaster details.

24-02-16 Jeddah course revealed
for 2024 Desert X Prix
Extreme E has unveiled its spectacular track design for the opening event
of Season 4 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Kingdom has launched each of the series three previous campaigns
and will do so again with Rounds 1 and 2 taking place in Jeddah this weekend
(17-18 February).
The dunes and sandy terrain have proven to be a unique challenge for the Extreme
E field since the championship launched in 2021 and will do so again when
its fourth instalment gets underway.
Ahead of the first Free Practice session of Season 4 commencing today (Friday
16 February), Extreme E Championship Driver Patrick ODonovan detailed
how the first course of the new campaign will provide plenty of excitement
at the Desert X Prix.
ODonovan said: Off the start line youve got a long run into
Turn 1, which I would say is the place to use the ENOWA Hyperdrive from the
launch. As you enter Turn 1 its not too tight a corner, which means
that hopefully there wont be too much bunching up and people can have
a chance to take their own lines in.
Turn 2 is a different story. It comes up quickly, straight into a tight
right turn, meaning almost coming back on yourself entirely and straight over
a jump, so thats an intense part of the course. As you land back down
youve got a short run up to another jump at Waypoint 4. Its going
to be quite a cool spectacle and possibly some overtaking in the air depending
on what the traction is like after Waypoint 2, or who brakes more going over
the jump at Waypoint 4.
Then you have two fast left-handers, where youre trying to carry
as much speed as you can because it ruts up quite easily there in the sand.
When I did my testing around the course it was quite a tricky point. Throughout
the session, the ruts will become more challenging, but by the time the next
session comes around the wind should level them out a bit. That will be interesting
to monitor over the course of the weekend.
The next big challenge as you head down the course is that it becomes
very technical. The car moves about left and right, and youve got the
back-end swinging about all over the place. Its very technical and behind
the wheel theres a lot going on to try and keep the car straight and
get over those.
Following that there is a long run up to the start of the Continental
Traction Challenge where youve got a super-heavy braking zone followed
by a jump over a 90-degree left-hander, which is a fascinating part of the
track as youre absolutely sending it hoping you dont dig in and
roll.
After that youre into an open horseshoe right-hander before you
come across the sand into another braking zone. This time its a hairpin
left over a jump, so you land on a different angle to one you took off at
- luckily, its low speed.
At the first race weekend of the season, teams will be looking to set the
tone for the campaign ahead and each driver will be pushing their ODYSSEY
21 to the limit to get ahead of the rest of the pack.
ODonovan continued: There are a lot of possibilities for overtakes
on this course. Whats good about the desert compared to other tracks
is in theory if the car allows you to do it, you can go 20 metres out wide
after one waypoint and come back in as long as you get to the second waypoint
between the flags. It will be interesting to see how the drivers utilise the
multiple lines to their advantage, and to see who figures out the best approach
to each jump and tight braking zones to get ahead.
Theres quite a lot of different skillsets that come into play.
Youve got fast-paced corners where you are trying to carry the speed,
but then youve got a lot of tight technical spots to deal with, too.
The Desert X Prix always proves to be an exciting event in the Extreme E calendar,
as the only terrain of its type amongst the remote locations visited by the
all-electric off-road series.
ODonovan added: Chile was a desert as well, but it was much more
of a gritty gravel terrain rather than sand. On gravel in Sardinia and Chile
you can trust the car a lot more and you can almost half predict what its
going to do when youre turning into a corner, but on sand thats
just not the case. No rut is going to be the same, and its possible
that the sand bunches up along the side wall of the tyre as youre going
through a corner, and suddenly theres just a mound that feels like you
are hitting something on the outside.
The course track markers stay the same, but the track changes every
time you come to a new corner which is amazing. Theres a lot of drivers
on the grid who, unless they go out testing, dont necessarily get the
chance to gain lots of experience in the sand, whereas for other drivers like
Dania Akeel, driving on this sort of terrain can be quite common.
My favourite part of this course has got to be the jumps. I dont
usually get a rush from these, but when youre going over a dune and
all you can see is the sky its totally different. Its a rush of
not being fully in control - just going flat out and hoping for the best.
The Extreme E Season 4 opener in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, gets underway this
weekend (17-18 February). The racing action will be live across ITV and STV
in the UK, while outside of the UK please visit here for broadcaster details.

Extreme E begins coral protection initiative in latest Saudi Arabian Legacy
Programme
15 February 2024, London: Pioneering racing series Extreme E has launched
its Legacy Programme in Saudi Arabia ahead of the Desert X Prix, with the
championships environmental efforts in the Kingdom to focus on the preservation
and planting of coral.
The legacy project will focus on the global challenge of conserving and restoring
coral reefs and the need to advance research and development, partnering with
three organisations: G20 Coral Research & Development Accelerator Platform
(CORDAP), King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and Ocean
Revive. This latest programme is led by Professor Carlos Duarte of the series
Scientific Committee.
Coral reefs are essential pillars of biodiversity, supporting one in four
of all marine animal species in the ocean. In addition, they support the livelihoods
of an estimated one billion people and protect the shores of vulnerable, low-lying
island states, for which conserving coral reefs is an existential matter.
As a collaborative project, CORDAP will provide input on the global challenge
to conserve and restore coral reefs and the need to advance R&D toward
the overarching objective of coral preservation. KAUST will support the delivery
of the largest coral nursery and gardening project in the world at Shushah
island and new advances in coral ecology, and other relevant technologies
delivered by the faculty.
Ocean Revive is a start-up at KAUST, which will deliver the corals for the
demonstration of coral outplanting and will provide also input of their technology
and innovations.
For its legacy initiative, Extreme E drivers explored first hand the fragile
nature of coral reefs and the crucial role they play by undergoing a coral
planting exercise. They were then provided access to KAUSTs state-of-the-art
marine research facilities, and partook in an evening with leading students
from the university.
The health of coral reefs is a a critical stage. Coral reefs occupy less than
one per cent of the ocean floor, however they inhabit more than 25 per cent
of marine life.
The planet has lost approximately half of the global ocean state of coral
reefs, and yet, due to their vulnerability to marine heat waves, the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) projects that 75-90 per cent of remaining corals
may be lost under climate change. That is even if the most ambitious target
of the Paris Agreement to contain coral reefs within 1.5 Degrees Celsius above
pre-industrial values is achieved.
As a consequence, coral reefs are regarded to be the first ecosystem at risk
of functional extinction under climate change.
Ahead of the Desert X Prix, the curtain raiser to the fourth Extreme E season,
Extreme E will be making an important contribution to raise awareness of the
vulnerability of coral reefs and the emerging solutions to address this global
challenge at the interface of our climate and biodiversity crises.
Professor Carlos Duarte, Extreme E Scientific Committee member and world-wide
leader in biological oceanography and marine ecology research at KAUST, said:
We are honoured to be supporting the championships latest legacy
initiative in Saudi Arabia alongside trusted partners CORDAP, KAUST and Ocean
Revive.
Coral is a vital part of the ecosystem in the Red Sea and with the help
of Extreme E and our legacy project partners we can take an important step
in supporting the preservation and restoration of coral reefs.
Coral reef health is crucial to the planet amidst this climate crisis,
and preserving and restoring will have long-term impacts to help support marine
life, protect coastlines from erosion and preserve sources for food and medicine.

Stage set for Extreme E Season 4 opener in Saudi Arabia
The fourth instalment of Extreme E is almost upon us, with the 2024 campaign
opening in Saudi Arabia this weekend (17-18 February).
There are new teams and new line-ups joining the fray in Season 4, along with
plenty of familiar faces, as the pioneering all-electric off-road racing series
returns to action for the Desert X Prix.
The deserts of Saudi Arabia have launched each of the three previous Extreme
E campaigns, all offering astonishing backdrops for the opening rounds of
the championship season, and another special event can be expected for Rounds
1 and 2 of the 2024 campaign in Jeddah.
Extreme Es inaugural season race in Jeddah forms part of a wider, ground-breaking
multi-year partnership with the Public Investment Fund (PIF). PIF plays a
vital role in this championship through the recently announced Electric 360
partnership, which also incorporates Formula E and E1, to support the growth
and transformation of electric motorsports globally.
The 2024 grid
It is only a couple of months since Extreme Es dramatic 2023 finale
in Antofagasta, Chile, which saw Nico Rosbergs Rosberg X Racing (RXR)
come out victorious to take the championship in a five-team showdown at the
Antofagasta Minerals Copper X Prix.
That win ensured their second championship in three seasons and, with the
team retaining their strong pairing of Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky
once again, you can be sure RXR will be amongst the front runners.
ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team (ASXE) were narrowly beaten to their maiden Extreme
E title in 2023. Laia Sanz returns for the Spanish outfit in a bid to capture
the championship this term, and will be joined by Jamaican Fraser McConnell.
McConnell, who initially joined the series as a Championship Driver, took
two victories for X44 Vida Carbon Racing in Season 3, and will look to add
to his tally under the guidance of the teams advisor, two-time World
Rally Champion and 2024 Dakar Rally winner Carlos Sainz Snr. ASXE took their
debut win in Extreme E in Saudi Arabia last year and will be keen to return
to the top step in the desert.
E.ON Veloce Racing also took their inaugural Extreme E win at the 2023 Desert
X Prix. After enduring mixed fortunes in their first two Extreme E campaigns,
the team surged up the order in Season 3, finishing third overall with Molly
Taylor and Kevin Hansen behind the wheel. Taylor and Hansen have proven to
be a strong pairing ever since debuting together, and their three wins in
2023 was the joint-highest across the field. After claiming two podiums on
their last visit to Saudi Arabia, the British outfit will be looking to replicate
their strong start this time around in Jeddah.
There are plenty of new faces in the Extreme E paddock for 2024, but consistency
is key for the Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E squad. Their driver line-up of
Timmy Hansen and Catie Munnings have competed in every event together for
the team since the series inception in 2021. The duo will be looking
to return to the front of the pack in 2024.
Although Hansen and Munnings claimed two podium finishes in 2023, the pair
suffered misfortune and bad luck throughout the campaign, ensuring they could
only finish as high as seventh overall. Saudi Arabia, though, brings back
good memories for Andretti Altawkilat, the scene of the teams debut
podium at the series first event in 2021, and replicating that would
signal strong progress for the team.
The NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team returns in 2024 with an all-new driver line-up,
signalling a statement of intent for the campaign ahead. Yet to score a victory
in the series so far, the team have been frequent challengers and have scored
two podium finishes. Their new pairing, however, has experience in Extreme
E of taking race wins and the overall championship, with Cristina Gutiérrez
and Mattias Ekström leading the team in 2024.
Gutiérrez took the Season 2 title with Sébastien Loeb for X44
Vida Carbon Racing in 2022, and the four-time race winner has yet to finish
below fourth in her Extreme E career to date. Two-time DTM champion Ekström
finished as runner-up for ASXE last-term, and will look to build on his two
victories in the series with NEOM McLaren XE.
Jenson Buttons JBXE return for the 2024 season with a new driver pairing,
as they bid to climb up the order in Extreme E. Andreas Bakkerud joined the
team from the Hydro X Prix onwards last term, and will look to showcase his
off-road racing pedigree across a full campaign in the series to launch the
team up the order.
Bakkerud will be joined by debutant Dania Akeel, with the Dakar Rally and
Baja competitor set to get behind the wheel of the ODYSSEY 21 for the first
time at her home event. The first Saudi female to participate in an international
rally competition, Akeel epitomises the series ethos of trailblazing
and will be hoping for a strong start at the Desert X Prix.
The SUN Minimeal Team will make their Extreme E debut, but the series rookies
will have plenty of experience in the ranks when the 2024 season begins. The
outfit will be led by Timo Scheider, who will race for the team and utilise
his wealth of motorsport experience in the role of Team Principal. The versatile
Scheider will be joined by Extreme E race-winner Klara Andersson for the campaign.
Rivals in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, the duo have shared a similar
path in Extreme E having made the journey from Championship Driver to the
podium in the series short history, and will be a formidable pairing
for SUN Minimeal Teams maiden Extreme E outing.
The final team to join the Extreme E grid for 2024 is LEGACY MOTOR CLUB IN
ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON (LEGACY M.C.), an exciting new outfit joining
the championship and led by motorsport royalty Jimmie Johnson. Headed by seven-time
NASCAR Cup Series champion and Hall of Famer Johnson, LEGACY M.C. will make
its Extreme E debut boasting an all-US line-up and plenty of off-road racing
pedigree. Exciting talent Gray Leadbetter will make her debut in the series,
alongside three-time motocross champion and a multi-disciplinary X Games gold
medalist Travis Pastrana, capturing a unique blend of youth and experience
as the team prepares for its Extreme E bow.
Pastrana will make a one-off appearance in Saudi Arabia, before Johnson debuts
from Round 3 for LEGACY M.C..With eight teams in the running for championship
glory, Extreme E Season 4 is all set to be another classic, with twists and
turns throughout the campaign.
The rulebook
Each X Prix is a double-header and plays host to back-to-back rounds across
the weekend. With eight teams battling it out for victory at each event, the
main change is that there will be four cars per Heat in 2024. Whats
more, come the end of the campaign, the starting drivers between men and women
must be equal across the campaign, which should spice up the action for the
year ahead.
Redemption Race victors will now receive 12 points, an increase of four from
the previous eight, with the winners minimising the deficit to those competing
in the Grand Final, which could have a significant impact come the end of
the season in the overall points tally.
For Qualifying, the grid choices are also now automatically reversed for Q2
as opposed to Q2 starting positions being based upon the results of Q1 Heats.
As with last season, the winners of each of the four Qualifying Heats will
receive one championship point.
Grid positions for the Grand Final will continue to be determined through
the fan voting process called GridPlay. The teams that do not make it to the
Grand Final must gift their votes to their preferred team on the
Grand Final grid. Grid positions for the Redemption Race will be defined by
the Intermediate Classification results from Qualifying, with the team that
finished 5th choosing grid position first, followed by the team that finished
6th, and so on.
The Continental Traction Challenge will be returning in 2024 and will be crucial
to the overall points total once again. The team that sets the fastest time,
a combination of both the male and female drivers fastest times, through
the allocated sector will win the Continental Traction Challenge and earn
one championship point. This will run for each of the individual race days
on Saturday and Sunday. If any teams are tied in the Qualifying standings,
their positioning will be determined by their time in the Continental Traction
Challenge - the team with the quicker run through the allocated sector during
Qualifying will receive the higher overall position.
Distances for each X Prix course and the number of laps will vary depending
on the characteristics of the location, such as the terrain and the environmental
conditions. What remains consistent, though, is a driver changeover in the
Switch Zone, taking place at the halfway point.
An ENOWA Hyperdrive boost will also be available to each driver
once in a race. Activated when the driver presses a button on their steering
wheel, they will enjoy an increase in power for a fixed amount of time. The
timing for this will be crucial when either attacking and defending out on
track.
Claudio Toldi, Head of Marketing Communications, Replacement Tires EMEA, at
Continental, said: Continental is proud to be a partner in the fourth
season of Extreme E and to support the series with our latest tyre innovation,
the CrossContact Extreme E. We continue our commitment to sustainability and
technological excellence with the start of the Desert X Prix in Saudi Arabia.
The CrossContact Extreme E is the result of our continuous research
and development, and is made from around 43 per cent recycled and renewable
materials. This underlines our endeavour to reduce the environmental impact
and increase the performance of our products.
We look forward to equipping Extreme E and its teams with our high-performance
tyres, and together setting an example for sustainability and innovation in
motorsport.
The form guide in Saudi Arabia
Two-time champions RXR have been the most successful team in Saudi Arabia,
taking two victories and two additional podiums from the fourth races held
so far. As Season 3 champions, Nico Rosbergs outfit will be the team
to beat.
Nevertheless, last years Desert X Prix showed that they can be beaten
despite their formidable form, with E.ON Veloce Racing and ACCIONA | SAINZ
XE Team both taking their debut wins in the series.
With eight teams in the running for victory when the lights go out, the Season
4 opener in the Saudi Arabian desert is set for another spectacular.

24-02-15 Symbio to become Extreme
H Official Hydrogen Fuel Cell provider from 2025
5 February 2024, London: Pioneering racing series Extreme E has announced
Symbio as its Official Hydrogen Fuel Cell provider ahead of the championships
transition to Extreme H in 2025.
Extreme H will become the worlds first hydrogen off-road racing series
when the championship begins next year. This partnership will ensure the delivery
of the technology and expertise needed for the series upcoming transition
to hydrogen power.
Symbio is a front-runner in zero-emission hydrogen mobility that designs,
produces and sells hydrogen fuel cells. Being a leading innovation partner
of hydrogen mobility pioneers, Symbio strategically accompany household names
for on-road (light and mid-size commercial vehicles, buses and coaches, pickups
and heavy-duty trucks, motorsport) and off-road (construction and warehouse
equipments) zero-emission mobility. Symbio is co-owned by Forvia, Michelin
and Stellantis, three world automotive leaders.
Hydrogen fuel cells represent a technological revolution that is now becoming
a wide-scale reality. Symbios high-performance fuel cell technology
combines the ease of use of the internal combustion engine (good range and
durability, quick refueling) with the advantages of the electric battery (zero
emission of CO2 nor microparticulates). Symbio has launched the mass production
of fuel cells in its SymphonHy Gigafactory, the largest integrated site for
fuel cell production in Europe, to make it a widely accessible, performant
and competitive reality.
In Extreme H, Symbio will provide a 75kW hydrogen fuel cell replacing the
battery as the principal energy source. Green hydrogen sources will be used
to power the Extreme H fuel cells, created using a combination of solar and
water. This technology is already being used behind the scenes in Extreme
E, where it provides the energy source to the vehicles batteries.
Symbio and Extreme Hs sustainability goals align, as reducing carbon
footprints and embracing the principles of the circular economy are central
to both organisations commitment.
Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: We are delighted
to announce Symbio as our Official Hydrogen Fuel Cell Provider ahead of our
first season as Extreme H in 2025. This is an exciting transition for the
championship, which has pioneered sustainable technology solutions since its
inception. We cannot wait to go racing with Symbio next year in the inaugural
campaign of Extreme H the worlds first off-road racing series
powered by hydrogen.
Philippe Rosier, CEO of Symbio, stated: We are delighted that Extreme
E, a pioneer in sustainable racing, trusts Symbio as its Official Fuel Cell
Provider for its upcoming, groundbreaking hydrogen series. This partnership
is testimonial of our technological lead. Furthermore, at Symbio we believe
motorsport offers a unique laboratory in extreme and real-life conditions
that enables us to test and adapt our technology to the most intense and demanding
uses. We go the extra mile to design, deliver and sell the most performant
and competitive zero emission fuel cell solutions tailored to every market
need.
Extreme H developments are progressing ahead of the championships launch
in 2025. Back in 2023 Extreme H and the Fédération Internationale
de l'Automobile (FIA) announced their pathway for the hydrogen series to become
a FIA Championship from its inaugural season in 2025, with the intention that
it will become a FIA World Championship from 2026.
A Hydrogen Technical Working Group between Formula 1, the FIA and Extreme
H has also been created to monitor the progression and development of hydrogen
technology. This is both for the fuel cells and battery systems, which will
be used in Extreme Hs first-generation racing chassis as well as hydrogen
technology within race site infrastructure, transportation, charging, storage
and management, and its safety implications.
The opening X Prix of the highly anticipated 2024 Extreme E season kicks off
this weekend in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 17-18 February.

24-02-14 Titeljakt
börjar i sandig terräng
i våra förberedelser, påpekar Johan.
Man
mästerskapets första besök i Förenta Staterna.
24-02-14 Exciting race debut
for SUN Minimeal
Spectacular Extreme E season opener in Saudi Arabia: the SUN Minimeal Team
with Timo Scheider and Klara Andersson is fired up for the start.
Wolfhalden, 14.02.2024. After a short and intensive preparation period, the
new SUN Minimeal Team will be starting the Extreme E adventure this weekend
with maximum motivation and concentration. The fourth season of the all-electric
off-road racing series kicks off with the "Desert X-Prix" in Jeddah
in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For the SUN Minimeal team, two-time DTM champion
Timo Scheider (45), who also takes on the role as the team principal, and
23-year-old Swede Klara Andersson will be at the wheel of the 550 hp ODYSSEY21
electric prototype.
"The new challenge of acting as driver and team principal for the first
time is very exciting for me, but it's a lot of fun," says Timo Scheider.
"So far, everything is going according to plan. Our goal for the debut
of the SUN Minimeal team must be to prepare the car well and get through cleanly.
Of course, our aim is to join the ranks of the experienced top teams as quickly
as possible. But first of all, it's about getting off to a good start as newcomers."
"Being part of this new team is simply cool," beams Klara Andersson.
"Everyone is super motivated and focused. We have to go step by step,
but the hunger for success and the passion is what drives us all, and that's
a great feeling. It's only the second time I will be racing on sand, but I'm
really looking forward to it. The track between the dunes looks absolutely
spectacular, I can't wait to get into the race car."
The program includes two races on Saturday and Sunday. In two qualifying heats,
the eight racing teams, each consisting of one female and one male driver,
try to qualify for the grand final of the top four. The teams in positions
5 to 8 in qualifying contest the small final, with the winners of this so-called
"Redemption Race" receiving 12 points for the championship, as do
the fourth-placed drivers in the grand final. The overall winner of each race
day can add 25 points to their account.
As the name suggests, the 3.5-kilometre race track at the "Desert X-Prix"
leads over desert sand, features two spectacular jumps as well as an elevation
of 138 meters and is extremely demanding. "Especially because the surface
varies," explains Timo Scheider. "At some places the sand is relatively
compacted and grippy, at others it is soft and loose, resulting in deep ruts.
You have to consider this when setting up the car. Things are made even more
difficult by the fact that each driver is only allowed to complete four practice
laps on Friday, so we go into the first qualifying session with minimal track
experience. As always in Extreme E, I expect heated duels and exciting races
and hope that we leave on Sunday evening with a smile on our faces."
Both the qualifying races (from 06:00 CET) and the finals (from 13:00 CET)
can be watched via live stream on Facebook or YouTube or via the official
series website.

13 February 2024, London: Extreme E, the pioneering off-road electric series,
has announced that Patrick ODonovan and Christine GZ will remain as
its Championship Drivers for 2024. Both drivers are familiar with the role
and have extensive experience of the series ODYSSEY 21.
ODonovan, 19 from London, UK, is a rising Rallycross star and became
an Extreme E Championship Driver at the first 2023 Island X Prix in Sardinia.
He became the youngest-ever British Rallycross title-winner in 2022, aged
just 18-years-old, winning the championship with a 50-point margin. ODonovan
claimed the title once again in 2023.
He is also an FIA RX2e race-winner and most recently scored a podium at the
final round of the 2023 World Rallycross Championship in Hong Kong.
Spanish star GZ, 30, born in India, competed for Carl Cox Motorsport last
year, securing her first-ever podium finish at the Hydro X Prix in Scotland,
marking the teams maiden top-three result in the process.
Prior to GZs two X Prix for Carl Cox Motorsport, she raced for XITE
Energy Racing in the championships debut season before taking part in
four events for Veloce Racing in 2022. GZ recently contested the 2024 Dakar
Rally.
GZ previously held the role of Championship Driver at the 2022 Uruguay Natural
Energy X Prix, before returning alongside ODonovan at the 2023 season
finale for the Antofagasta Minerals Copper X Prix in Chile.
In their role of Championship Drivers, ODonovan and GZ will perform
both an advisory role, testing and helping finalise the race courses, and
also being on hand as an all-important back-up driver should any of the teams
require a replacement during any of the five X Prix weekends.
The opening round of Extreme Es 2024 season kicks off in KAEC, Saudi
Arabia, this weekend (17-18 February). You can watch all the racing action

24-02-12 LEGACY
MOTOR CLUB IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON joins Extreme E to complete
Season 4 line-up
Pioneering racing series Extreme E is thrilled to welcome LEGACY
MOTOR CLUB (LEGACY M.C.) IN ASSOCIATION WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON to its championship
line-up for Season 4. The American outfit completes the grid for the 2024
campaign, which begins this weekend in Saudi Arabia (17-18 February).
Led by seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, LEGACY M.C. will
make its Extreme E debut boasting an all-US line-up and plenty of off-road
racing pedigree.
With Johnson unable to contest the opening two rounds of the campaign at the
first event due to a clash with the Daytona 500, US compatriots Travis Pastrana
and Gray Leadbetter will be behind the wheel in the LEGACY M.C. ODYSSEY 21
for the upcoming Desert X Prix.
Jimmie Johnson, LEGACY M.C. co-owner who will compete in the series after
the Desert X Prix, said: The opportunity for LEGACY M.C. to field an
off-road vehicle in the Extreme E championship is exciting in many ways. We
are essentially representing America in this unique and very competitive series
and we are committed to the challenge. Im excited to watch our LEGACY
MOTOR CLUB colours race on foreign soil for the first time while Im
in Daytona for the Great American race. I know Travis and Gray will represent
us well and I cant wait to see what they accomplish.
Our goal is to learn as much as we can and see what the future might
bring. The fact this series competes globally and focuses on sustainably,
inclusion and equality really piques our interest. From a technical standpoint
the changeover to hydrogen in 2025 is really intriguing and the entire motorsports
community is watching closely. Personally for me as a driver, going back to
my off-road roots and to the type of racing I started my career with is going
to be a blast.
Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme E, said: It is fantastic
for Extreme E to welcome Jimmie Johnson and LEGACY M.C. to the championship.
Jimmies credentials speak for themselves, and we cannot wait to see
him behind the wheel of the ODYSSEY 21.
Jimmie is a proven winner and adds to our already healthy list of champions
competing in the series. Racing in Extreme E with his own team is something
which excited him, and it is great that Jimmie is also looking towards the
future and our transition to Extreme H the worlds first off-road
hydrogen-powered racing series next year.
We are sure that for the Desert X Prix that Travis Pastrana and Gray
Leadbetter will be competing up at the front of the field, demonstrating the
US prowess for exciting off-road racing. It is great to have further
US involvement in the championship, especially with our first-ever North American
event to end the season in Phoenix, Arizona.
Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: Welcoming Jimmie
Johnson and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB into our championship for Season 4 is a huge
coup. We are thrilled that the LEGACY MOTOR CLUB has joined Extreme E and
we wish them the very best for the campaign ahead.
Jimmie knows what it takes to win and he has done it all throughout
his career, so we look forward to seeing him and his team mix it with the
very best in Extreme E. Travis Pastrana and Gray Leadbetter make an exciting
combination for the first event in Saudi Arabia before Jimmie gets behind
the wheel as they fly the flag for the United States.
North America is such a key market for our championship, so to make
our debut in the US later this year in Phoenix for the 2024 finale, with LEGACY
MOTOR CLUB on the grid, will be extra special.
For the Desert X Prix, both Pastrana and Leadbetter will make their Extreme
E debuts.
Leadbetter, 19 from Morganton, NC, started driving in the Championship Off-Road
series in 2019 and was the first woman to win a US Pro Class Championship
in the Championship Off-Road closed-course series, winning four races overall
to take the crown.
In December 2020, she was the first woman and youngest competitor to win a
Sportsman SXS race. She started competing in arenacross when she was five
years old.
On joining LEGACY M.C. for the 2024 season, Leadbetter said: Im
super excited and thankful for this opportunity.
Ive always been interested in Extreme E, but just never found
the right opportunity to step foot in it. When Travis texted me last week
that there might be a chance to race with Jimmie Johnson and LEGACY M.C.,
I couldnt have been more thrilled. Ive never driven these cars
so its sure to be an adventure, but I will be in great company. This
is a dream come true.
Pastrana, from Annapolis, MD, is a true motorsports legend. He combines the
accolades of a three-time motocross champion and a multi-disciplinary X Games
gold medalist with a versatile and high-profile racing career, including a
standout performance against Johnson in the thrilling 2023 DAYTONA 500. Throughout
his remarkable career, he has claimed victory at the highest levels of competition.
Pastrana has clinched seven championships across supercross, motocross, and
rally racing, showcasing his exceptional talent and versatility in the world
of motorsports.
Ahead of his Extreme E and LEGACY M.C. debut, Pastrana said: This all
came together pretty quick, but Im really excited!
I have quite a bit of experience in electric vehicles, although I've
never been in an Extreme E ODYSSEY 21 before. I compete in a lot of off-road
events and some desert stuff mostly on two wheels but this should
be really fun for us. I believe in Jimmie Johnson and in LEGACY M.C. and all
he is doing with the Club, so when he asked me it was a no-brainer.
Ive worked with Gray before and she is a huge talent, so overall
it is just a great opportunity for both of us to compete in this championship
series together. She's the top female young up-and-coming talent in Nitrocross
and has the speed.
So hopefully as Americans, we will do our country proud and return home
with a win and some smiles on our faces.
And Pastrana has eyes on a rival already in the series who he is excited to
do battle with out on track once again.
Pastrana added in jest: Ive never beaten Mattias [Ekström]
at anything, and before he retires I want to beat him at something! With that
in mind, I guess my two biggest reasons for participating in this event is
to help out my friend Jimmie, and, for the first time in my life, beat Mattias.
You can find out how LEGACY M.C. fare in their Extreme E debut when the 2024
campaign gets underway in Saudi Arabia this weekend (17-18 February).

24-02-08 Laia
Sanz and Fraser McConnell to race for ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team in Season
Laia Sanz and Fraser McConnell will be the driver line-up for the ACCIONA
| SAINZ XE Team (ASXE) in Extreme E Season 4.
ASXE finished the 2023 Extreme E campaign in second place overall, narrowly
missing out on the championship to Rosberg X Racing.
Sanz has been part of the team ever since Extreme Es maiden season in
2021. She recently finished the Dakar Rally with a career-best result.
Sanz claimed two victories last term alongside Mattias Ekström and has
scored a total of nine podiums for ASXE. Her speed behind the wheel illustrates
the rapid improvement the Spaniard has demonstrated year-after-year in Extreme
E, where she has established herself as one of the series fastest racers.
Sanz also has proven pedigree on two wheels, as a 14-time trial world champion
and a six-time enduro world champion.
Laia Sanz, ASXE driver, said: "I am really happy to continue racing for
ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team and I am really looking forward to starting working
with Fraser because I am sure he will bring a lot to us. The team has grown
a lot throughout this time and we have grown together.
"Last year we did a great job, even though we narrowly missed the title,
and I am looking forward to continuing down this path. Today we feel like
a family, we work really well together, always in sync, and I think it is
very positive to continue to keep on improving. For me personally, I am really
happy to continue in this team and I am eager to start the season. I think
it is the best place to continue learning and fighting for victories."
McConnell joins ASXE for the 2024 campaign after competing with X44 Vida Carbon
Racing in Extreme E Season 3, where the Jamaican claimed two wins for Sir
Lewis Hamiltons outfit. He debuted in Extreme E in 2022 for JBXE after
a stint as the series Championship Driver.
A proven off-road racer, McConnell was crowned ARX Rallycross champion in
2019 and finished fourth in the FIA World Rallycross RX2 Series. From there,
he jumped to the RallyX Nordic Supercar Championship, where he was the runner-up
both in 2020 and 2021. In 2022 he made his first appearance in Nitro Rallycross
and was its European runner-up. For 2023, he combined his duties for X44 with
the Nitro Rallycross calendar, taking victories in the series.
Fraser McConnell, ASXE driver, said: "I am so honoured to be selected
as the male driver for the ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team this year and I cannot
wait to get started at the first event in Saudi Arabia. Receiving the call
from Carlos asking me to join the team was such a surreal moment for me because
growing up I was such a big fan and still to this day he is such an inspiration.
He is also still such a fierce competitor so having that energy within the
team is definitely going to help us win races and I am sure I will be able
to learn many things from him.
"I am also very much looking forward to teaming up with Laia who has
been so fast over the last few seasons and I can feel that we will be a very
strong driver pairing and aim to win the championship together."
ASXE will also receive a further boost by partnering up with Red Bull for
the forthcoming season. Carlos Sainz Snr. and Red Bulls relationship
is a longstanding and successful one, and marks the latters first official
involvement as part of the all-electric off-road racing series.
Carlos Sainz Snr., ASXE advisor, said: "I would like to welcome Fraser
to the team. He is a young and ambitious driver. He has the speed and the
right attitude to grow even further. I think he will be a very good fit for
the team and I am sure he will push to give us plenty of things to be happy
about.
"Of course, I am very happy to have Laia again in the car. She is a really
talented driver and she has developed a lot through these years, and she is
especially eager to go for it after her great Dakar Rally and how close we
were last season to winning the title.
"Last but not least, a racing team needs people and companies that believe
in it, and for this, I would like to thank ACCIONA for its continuous support
through the years and also to give the warmest welcome to Red Bull, who joins
the project this year. We have an exciting season ahead and we will go for
it."
Joan Oru´s, Team Principal at ASXE, added: "We are really happy
to welcome Fraser to the team. His youth and his will to succeed will help
us achieve our goals for this season. Of course, having Laia for a fourth
season in a row is a luxury. Her experience and her improvement are impressive,
as she has shown recently in the Dakar Rally or as we could see throughout
2023 when she established herself as maybe the fastest female driver in Extreme
E.
"With the solid presence of ACCIONA and the arrival of Red Bull to the
team, we have the baseline we need to do a great year."
Extreme Es fourth season will start in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 17-18
February.

announces Dania Akeel and Andreas Bakkerud for Extreme E Season 4
Jenson Buttons JBXE have announced a new driver line-up for the 2024
Extreme E season.
Andreas Bakkerud returns for his second campaign with JBXE and will be partnered
by Saudi Arabias Dania Akeel, who will make her debut at her home event,
the Desert X Prix, later this month (17-18 February).
The duo boast plenty of off-road pedigree and will look to spearhead JBXEs
charge up the leaderboard in 2024.
Dania Akeel, JBXE, said: Im very excited to join the fun that
Ive been witnessing at Extreme E since it started. Sport is the perfect
medium for both work and play, and Im looking forward to what Ill
learn in this type of racing. Being home for the first round will have its
comforts, and I couldnt ask for a nicer start.
Thank you to the JBXE team for this opportunity; working with Jenson
is a true privilege given his incredible career, and I aim to deliver my absolute
best for us all. Wishing everyone a great season!
Andreas Bakkerud, JBXE, said: Im thrilled to be back with JBXE
for 2024. It is great to be a part of this championship and I cant wait
for the new season. This will be my first time racing in the sand, last year
I got to be ringside watching the epic scenery of the race in NEOM, and now
Im just pumped getting to race it.
Welcoming Dania as a teammate is an exciting prospect. Her rise through
the motorsport ranks has been monumental and Im optimistic about what
can happen when we head to Saudi Arabia for the opening rounds of the campaign.
Jenson Button, JBXE team owner, added: I am delighted to welcome Andreas
back to JBXE and it is great to have Dania make her Extreme E debut with us.
I believe we have got a strong driver pairing for 2024.
Andreas experience with the team gives us a great platform to
achieve positive results this season, while Dania has demonstrated her off-road
capabilities in other categories and that will give us plenty of experience
for the season ahead. Im confident we can hit the ground running at
the Desert X Prix, especially in Dania's home event, and we are really looking
forward to the new season.
Bakkerud joined JBXE ahead of the Hydro X Prix last term after a brief stint
as Championship Driver and has secured two top-five finishes from his eight
races to date. The Norwegian will be eager to make a maiden visit to an Extreme
E podium, having achieved a wealth of success in other categories including
the FIA World Rallycross championship and Nitro Rallycross.
Bakkerud fought fellow Extreme E star Timmy Hansen for the World Rallycross
title in 2019, with the pairs duel going right the way down to the wire.
After colliding in a dramatic finale in Cape Town, they ended up tied on points
but Bakkerud was beaten to the championship by Hansen on countback.
This will be Akeels maiden Extreme E season. She was the first Saudi
female to obtain a license for motorcycle circuit racing, contesting the Ducati
Cup in the UAE National Sportsbike Superseries 2019-20 season. In her first
season, her impact was so great she was named the Rookie of the Year?
Akeel then switched to cars in 2021, competing in the T3 category for South
Racing Can-Am in the Dakar Rally and finishing a credible eighth?
Akeel returned to Dakar in 2023 alongside a campaign in the FIA World Cup
for Cross-Country Bajas and Saudi Toyota Rally Championships T3 category.
Achieving multiple podiums in class across the year, she finished runner-up
in class in the Saudi Toyota Rally Championships T3 category and third
in the Bajas World Cup Championship T3 category, in only her second full year
of racing.
This tenacity and ability to adapt quickly to different categories ensures
Akeel will undoubtedly be one to watch in Extreme E Season 4.

McLaren Extreme E Team announce Cristina Gutiérrez and Mattias Ekström
for Season 4
The NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team has announced its new driver line up for
the 2024 Extreme E Championship season today.
The new pairing will see Cristina Gutiérrez and Mattias Ekström
join the team for its third season in Extreme E.
Gutiérrez saw early domination in her racing career, finishing top
of the female category in the All-Terrain Spanish Rally Championship for six
consecutive years, and securing second place overall in the mixed gender category.
In 2017, Gutiérrez made her breakthrough in the Dakar Rally, becoming
the first Spanish woman to ever finish the rally. Following the same success
in 2018 and 2019, she reached greater heights when she became the second woman
ever to attain a stage victory in 2021. Also in 2021, she became the FIA Crosscountry
Rally champion in the T3 category, and the first woman to win a FIA Crosscountry
championship.
Continuing this momentum, she went on to finish third place overall in 2022
and in January 2024 became the second woman ever to win the Dakar Rally, and
first to win in the T3 Challenger category.
Gutiérrez has competed in Extreme E since its inaugural season and
has a proven track record of success. Claiming one championship win for X44
Vida Carbon Racing, as well as four wins and 10 podiums over the course of
the last three seasons, she has shown her skill and determination for victory
in Extreme E.
Ekström, from Sweden, is a decorated driver with an impressive career,
spanning continents and championships. He is a two-time DTM champion (2004
and 2007), FIA World Rallycross Champion (2016), the first PURE ETCR champion
and a four-time winner of the Race of Champions (2006, 2007, 2009 and 2023).
Mattias has also tried his hand in WRC, NASCAR, the Dakar Rally and V8 Supercars.
Ekström began his journey in Extreme E in its inaugural season for ABT
CUPRA XE. He returned to the series in 2023, and over the course of his Extreme
E career has collected two wins and six podiums, finishing runner-up in 2023
for ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team.
Extreme E Season 4 will mark the teams third campaign in the electric
off-road championship. Over the last two years, the team has competed with
Emma Gilmour and Tanner Foust, scoring two podiums during that time. The NEOM
McLaren Extreme E team finished the 2023 season in eighth, with 68 points.
Cristina Gutiérrez, NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team, said: I am delighted
to be part of the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team for their third season in the
championship. I would like to thank NEOM McLaren for counting on me to be
part of this beautiful adventure with them in the Extreme E, since it is a
championship that fights to give visibility and spark action to reduce the
impact of climate change and promotes equality. I am very motivated to start
working with the entire team. I cannot wait to get going in Saudi Arabia this
month!
Mattias Ekström, NEOM McLaren Extreme E driver, said: Im
excited to join the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team and wear the papaya colours.
McLaren Racing has huge heritage and success in motorsport, so I hope that
myself, together with Cristina, can extend the success story in Extreme E.
I have known Gary for many years as we used to race against each other in
DTM. With him at the helm of the team, I know everyone within the team will
be super motivated and ready to push for the best result.
I believe the 2024 season will be as competitive as ever, as most of
the teams have learnt a lot from previous years. I will need to adapt quickly
to the new team, learn from them, while also sharing my knowledge, so we can
be in front of the pack from day one.
Gary Paffett, Sporting Director, NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team, said: Its
great to be able to share the news that Cristina and Mattias will be joining
the team for our third season in Extreme E. Both drivers have seen success
and have proven track records in Extreme E, as well as other categories of
racing, and with their skill and determination were excited to see what
they can achieve this season.
Ian James, Managing Director, NEOM McLaren Electric Racing, said: Im
super excited to have Cristina and Mattias join the NEOM McLaren Extreme E
Team for the 2024 Extreme E Championship. This announcement is a testament
to our commitment to the series and underlines that we are competing in Extreme
E with a clear goal: fighting for the Championship.
Both drivers have enjoyed great success in their time in Extreme E so
far. Outside of Extreme E, they have also shown their capabilities by winning
several of the most prestigious motorsport championships.
They will bring invaluable experience, raw talent and passion to the
NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team, as well as to the wider McLaren Racing family,
and will play a key role in the team achieving its goals. Welcome to the team,
Cristina and Mattias!

Racing return for Season 4 with unchanged driver line-up
1 January 2024, London: After taking three victories in Veloce Racings
best-ever Extreme E season last term, the duo of Kevin Hansen and Molly Taylor
will once again spearhead the British squads pursuit of a maiden series
title.
Veloce Racing finished third in the overall standings in 2023,
their highest placing in Extreme E so far, and will be eager for more success
when the championship returns next month in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for Rounds
1 and 2 (17-18 February).
Veloce Racings decision to retain both drivers underscores the team's
strong ambitions for the upcoming campaign, following a season which saw Hansen
and Taylor finish level on most wins for the year with the champions, Rosberg
X Racing.

last year and the team will be looking for another visit to the top step of
the podium at the season opening Desert X Prix.
Kevin Hansen, Veloce Racing, said: Im really excited to be heading
into my second season of Extreme E with Veloce Racing, and were all
fully focussed on picking up where we left off in Chile last year.
We showed so much promise throughout the season, but taking our third
win of the year in Chile with such a dominant performance is just the momentum
we need. Third in Season 3 is something to be proud of for sure, but well
settle for nothing less than the Season 4 title.
Molly and I have cemented ourselves as consistent podium finishers.
We developed a really strong partnership last year, but we can always be better,
so I'm looking forward to improving even more together this season.
Molly Taylor, Veloce Racing, said: For Veloce Racing to take the equal
highest number of race wins and finish third in our first full season together
with Kevin and I was a fantastic achievement, but of course were hungry
for the Championship.
Preparations have been in full swing since the moment we finished in
Chile, and everyone in the team is working hard to take all that we learnt
from Season 3 to ensure the best possible results in Season 4.
Kevin and I will continue to push each other to be our best, and will
be doing all we can to get Veloce Racing its first title in Extreme E.
Daniel Bailey, CEO and Co-Founder of Veloce Racing, added: Last season
was our best yet for Veloce Racing, and well be looking to build on
our third place finish in the championship as we kick start out fourth season
in Extreme E.

as a pair and with the rest of the team. Its great to see perfectly
theyve fit into the Veloce family, and were looking forward to
another season together where we can push ourselves even further.
The opening race of the season next month marks an opportunity for us
to start the year as we mean to go on, and all of us here at Veloce Racing
will be hunting down that first win.

24-01-29 Scheider
tackles Extreme E with SUN Minimeal
New team for the electric racing series with two-time DTM champion
Timo Scheider. His team mate will be Swedish driver Klara Andersson.
Wolfhalden, 29.01.2024. True to the motto "Race for the Planet",
Swiss food producer SUN AG is entering the Extreme E series with its own racing
team SUN Minimeal Team to draw attention to the latest food innovation from
Switzerland as well as the global waste of calories and resources in nutrition.
"Especially in racing, a performance-supporting diet is extremely important,"
says Wolfgang Grabher, CEO of SUN AG. "SUN Minimeal is the simplest and
safest way to eat healthily and sustainably. The special thing about it is
that it contains all the natural nutrients in the right quantities and with
a low calorie content. The meal is particularly appreciated by people who
have little time, travel a lot and don't want to miss out on a healthy diet."
Extreme E is a racing series for off-road silhouette vehicles with electric
motors, which will be held as the world's first hydrogen-based FIA World Championship
from 2025. The aim of the racing series is to illustrate the already visible
consequences of climate change in particularly affected locations. Ten teams,
consisting of one male and one female driver, will compete against each other
to offer exciting racing on the one hand, but also to draw attention to global
problems on the other.
The competition vehicle is an ODYSSEY21 prototype, a fully electric SUV with
a peak output of around 400 kW (544 hp). The 1895-kilogram, 2.3-meter-wide
electric car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and climb gradients
of up to 130 percent.
Two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider will be team principal and driver for
the SUN Minimeal team. The 45-year-old Austrian by choice has become very
familiar with Extreme E in his roles as track designer and driver. Scheider's
team mate is 23-year-old Swede Klara Andersson, who celebrated her first international
successes in rallycross. She was the first woman to stand on the podium of
a World Rallycross Championship round in Montalegre, Portugal, in 2022. She
also made it onto the podium in her debut in Extreme E in Chile that same
year.
"The long-term partnership with SUN Minimeal is extremely exciting and
makes me very happy," emphasizes Timo Scheider. "The combination
is a perfect fit, because I share common goals and philosophies with SUN Minimeal
and Extreme E. I have been able to engage a number of highly competent team
members, which will allow me to fully concentrate on my role as a driver.
I am very proud that we have been able to recruit Klara as a driver. She is
extremely fast and also fits perfectly well to the team. I am convinced that
we have put together a strong package to play a significant role in the high-class
competitive environment of Extreme E."
"I am delighted to be part of the SUN Minimeal team and would like to
thank Wolfgang Grabher and Timo Scheider for their trust," says Klara
Andersson. "I got to know Timo in the World Rallycross Championship as
one of the fastest and hardest working racing drivers out there. To be able
now to compete alongside him in Extreme E is simply cool. I can hardly wait
for the season opener in Saudi Arabia!"
"Our involvement in Extreme E will help us to globally present our innovation
for healthy nutrition and our mission to reduce nutritional resources by 90
percent and reach up to 2.1 billion households," explains Wolfgang Grabher.
"I am particularly pleased to have Timo Scheider, a champion and great
team player, in the team and wish him and Klara Andersson all the best for
the 2024 season."
Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme E, says: We are delighted
to welcome the SUN Minimeal Team into our series as our latest entrant. Despite
being a new team in the championship, SUN Minimeal Team arrives with plenty
of experience and race-winning pedigree, so we hope they will be fighting
up at the sharp end of the field when the new season begins next month in
Saudi Arabia. Everyone pulling in the same direction is so important in Extreme
E, and Sun Minimeal is undoubtedly an organisation which is environmentally
conscious and focused on sustainability, sharing the corevalues of our championship.
I look forward to seeing how Timo and Klara fare behind the wheel and SUN
Minimeal Team battling for podiums and victories in 2024, as we count down
to our fourth Extreme E season.
James Taylor, Chief Championship Officer at Extreme E, adds: It is great
to have SUN Minimeal Team join the Extreme E line-up for 2024. The team will
bring some fresh energy into the series, while in Timo and Klara they boast
a strong driver pairing which has already scored excellent results in the
championship to-date. Their off-road racing abilities are second to none,
while having Timo step into the unique role of team principal and race driver
is sure to be fascinating given his wealth of experience in the series and
across motorsport. We are pleased to welcome SUN Minimeal Team into the series
and look forward to their debut next month in Saudi Arabia.
Extreme E 2024 consists of five race weekends at four venues. There will be

month to go until Extreme E Season 4 begins in Saudi Arabia
After three years of thrills and spills Extreme E is set to return for its
fourth instalment, with only a month to go until Rounds 1-2 of the 2024 campaign
in Saudi Arabia.
Season 4 will deliver even more thrilling wheel-to-wheel action showcased
across some of the toughest terrains on the planet.
The deserts of Saudi Arabia have opened each of Extreme Es three previous
campaigns, and another spectacular is expected in Jeddah when the championship
arrives for the Desert X Prix on 17-18 February.
This is the first time since the series launched that Extreme E has raced
in Jeddah, which has been home to the countrys Formula One races since
2021.
The focus of Extreme Es legacy initiative at the Desert X Prix will
be coral restoration. The initiative will be led by Carlos Duarte, Head of
Extreme Es Scientific Committee and Professor of Marine Science at the
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), as well as collaborating
with Ocean Revive and AEON Collective.
Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme E, said: We are excited to
return to Saudi Arabia for our fourth season of Extreme E.
The championship is undoubtedly one of the most competitive in world
motorsport, and we are looking forward to another year full of fantastic battles
out on track visiting some incredible locations, some of which have been hugely
impacted by climate change.
Saudi Arabia has been a great host for Extreme E since we launched,
and has also showcased some memorable on track moments, and we look forward
to more of the same in Jeddah.
His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, Chairman
of the Saudi Motorsport Company, stated: Our partnership with Extreme
has a rich history, extending far beyond the realms of sports and racing.
We envision this collaboration to endure for the long term. This time around,
the race takes place in a fresh and iconic setting, Jeddah, a location renowned
globally for its significance, which has played a pivotal role in establishing
Saudi Arabia's reputation in the world of motorsports.
We take immense pride in welcoming Extreme E back to Saudi Arabia for
the fourth consecutive year, as it embarks on yet another thrilling round
of the competition. Extreme E perfectly aligns with the core pillars of Saudi
Arabia's Vision 2030, championing the nation's commitment to lead in the advancement
and advocacy of alternative energy, protecting our environment for generations
to come, and forging a sustainable future.
Extreme Es ten-race championship is set to captivate on track once more.
Alongside returning to Saudi Arabia and Sardinia, the series will also make
its debut in the USA, with a further X Prix in Europe still to be confirmed.
Two-time champions Rosberg X Racing (RXR) have been the most successful team
in Saudi Arabia, taking two victories and two additional podiums from the
fourth races held so far. As Season 3 champions, Nico Rosbergs outfit
will be the team to beat. Nevertheless, last years Desert X Prix showed
that they can be beaten despite their formidable form, with Veloce Racing
and ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team both taking their debut wins the in the series.
With less than five weeks to go until the opening X Prix of the campaign,
anticipation continues to build ahead of Extreme E Season 4 with plenty more
news ahead of another exciting year still to come.
