25-04-01 Svedlund victorious with JC Raceteknik in Portuguese RallyX encounter
Rising rallycross star Carl Svedlund delivered the performance of a driver beyond his years in the first RallyX event of 2025, at the legendary Montalegre Circuit in Portugal (March 29-20).

On a brand-new circuit to the young Swedish driver, and with limited running pre-season, Svedlund dominated the qualifying stages on the opening day, competing against a strong contingent of fast and experienced local drivers.

Having netted top qualifier position, Svedlund also won his semi-final to set himself up perfectly for the all-important Cross Car Junior final, only to be slowed during the race by a transmission problem that ultimately cost him the win, resulting in a third-place finish.

Taking solace from his strong performance, Svedlund returned for the second day of action and while he didn’t set a fastest time through qualifying, he sat third in the Intermediate Classification, before also finishing third in the semis to make it through to the final. With a strong start and opening lap, and overtakes on track, Svedlund showed his class in the final by climbing up the order and taking redemption for the issues in Saturday’s final, by scoring victory.

In the Supercar Lites category, former Cross Car Junior ace Lukas Andersson battled at the front of the order all weekend, starting his third season in the single-specification category. Fastest of all in the second qualifying heat on Saturday, after a frantic final Andersson wound up second to begin the year on the podium, but time lost in traffic in the final on Sunday despite qualifying on the inside of the second row of the grid, resulting in a fifth place finish.

Also racing under the JC Raceteknik banner, Finnish driver Joonatan Ylilammi and Norwegian Vetle Try both set top three times in qualifying through the weekend in the Cross Car category, but while Ylilammi just missed out on a place in the final on Saturday, in eighth, with Try classified 15th, a DNF for each driver in qualifying on Sunday cost them dear, despite having pace to make it to the final, Ylilammi ending up ninth with Try in 10th.

The next RallyX event takes place at Valkenswaard, Netherlands on April 26-27.

Joel Christoffersson, JC Raceteknik Team Principal:
“It’s brilliant for Carl to get a win under his belt at a circuit brand new to RallyX. We have competed in Montalegre with different drivers many times before, so we were able to help our drivers with our experience, but you still have to deliver behind the wheel. Saturday was unfortunate in the final, but he kept a mature head and delivered a really strong performance on Sunday. Lukas showed his speed once again and the podium was great on Saturday; things just didn’t fall his way on Sunday. And for Joonatan and Vetle, they both showed good speed, but you have to be so consistent in Cross Car to get a top result and I’m sure they will fight back stronger next time.”

Carl Svedlund (SWE), Cross Car Junior:
“It was an up and down weekend for me. Saturday was really good in qualification but then we had the issues with the gearstick in the final. On Sunday I had some penalties in the qualifying races but in the final I felt I drove very well and I’m really happy to win. The drivers from Spain and Portugal were very good on this track so it was hard to race against them, but a lot of fun. We go to Holland next time where I will just keep trying to do my best.”

25-03-10 FIA to invest directly in the FIA World Rallycross Championship
The FIA World Rallycross Championship (World RX) is entering an exciting new era as the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) confirms it will be taking over the operation of the series with immediate effect.

The FIA will be investing directly in the World and European Rallycross Championships as owner and promoter, with Volvo Construction Equipment and Hoosier Racing Tire Europe continuing as Official Partners of the series.

Under the direct leadership of the FIA, which brings with it a wealth of experience in motorsport event management, media rights, and global fan engagement, World RX is set to reach new heights in 2025.

FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, said: “The FIA is making an investment not only in Rallycross, but in the future of our sport. We are fully committed to take this category to the next level by securing new global audiences, delivering the opportunity for an improved competition for the drivers, teams, our commercial partners, and crucially the fans.

“When I was elected, I pledged to deliver strong regulations and a stronger FIA, building an essential foundation for the success of motor sport at every level. Securing the future growth of our World Championships reflects my commitment to do just this.”

FIA Junior Road Sport Director, Emilia Abel, said: “The championship has huge potential to grow and develop at a global level and I am confident that this new opportunity for the FIA to operate the championship brings with it a bright future.

“The FIA will put fans and competitors at the heart of the work that is to come. All of us are looking forward to the 2025 season and being a part of this new era of Rallycross.”

To kickstart this new era of growth, the FIA will be prioritising free-to-air coverage and digital accessibility with the goal of attracting new fans and providing additional value to commercial partners and sponsors by maximising reach and engagement.

The change comes at an important time in the evolution of World RX. Introduced in 2024, the pioneering ‘Battle of Technologies’ showcased cutting-edge electric vs internal combustion engine (ICE) technology in thrilling wheel-to-wheel battles.

Committed to innovation and sustainability, the FIA aims to elevate the unrivalled action of World RX while maintaining the ‘Battle of Technologies’ format and passionate fan base.
Team Principal at Hansen World RX Team, Kenneth Hansen, said: “Hansen Motorsport and the Hansen family welcome today’s announcement from the FIA regarding the future of rallycross.

“We are thankful for the hard work and dedication of President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and his team at the FIA which will now ensure the growth of our sport, from Cross Cars at the grassroots level to the pinnacle of the FIA World Rallycross Championship.

“We look forward to working closely with the FIA in the coming months to turn the potential of rallycross into an exciting reality. We are confident that together we can restore our beloved sport to where it belongs as a global off-road spectacle!”

The investment by the FIA in the highest levels of rallycross also indicates its commitment to developing the progression pathway for off-road racing. The FIA will continue to work collectively with National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) to strengthen this route, starting from entry-level Cross Car events, leading into clear, accessible steps from national and regional competition through to the top level of the FIA World Rallycross Championship.

The 2025 World RX season is set to be a landmark year for the championship, with a seven-event calendar to be announced by 14 March, subject to the approval of the World Motor Sport Council.

More details on the upcoming season will be announced over the coming months.
25-03-10 FIA to take the reins of the 2025 WRX Season
The FIA World Rallycross Championship (WRX) is set for a new chapter in 2025, with the FIA assuming direct ownership and operational control of the series. This move strengthens the championship’s long-term vision by ensuring transparency, security, and stability.

The FIA’s involvement underscores the sport’s potential, introducing a focus on free-to-air coverage and digital accessibility. These initiatives will enhance the fan experience, elevate competition, and create a stronger pathway for future talent. Volvo CE remains committed to the 2025 season as the official track building partner.

The official WRX calendar will be announced by the FIA imminently, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

25-02-12 Tanner Foust Joins RallyX Grid at Montalegre in FC2 Star Car
American rallycross legend Tanner Foust will make his long-awaited return to Europe with RallyX, competing in its season-opening Euro League event at Circuito Internacional de Montalegre on March 29-30.

Foust will take part in the doubleheader in the premier Open 4WD class, driving the First Corner FC2 Star Car that will be prepared by American team BAK40 Motorsports.

Foust will also be on hand to give ride-alongs in the fully electric FC1-X, which will be demonstrated at the Portuguese track for the first time.

“Montalegre was the home of my first European rallycross win back in 2011,” says Foust.

“I have great memories from amazing fans, an amazing location, and a fun track. I’m looking forward to coming back to Europe for some FC2 racing, and to give rides in the amazing FC1-X fully EV rallycross car.”

Over the past 15 years, Foust has established himself as one of the biggest names in the sport, winning multiple championships in America, driving for the top factory teams in the world, and pushing forward into the next generation with the FC1-X.

Montalegre holds a special place in his career journey as the site of his first European Supercar victory in 2011; that year, he scored four victories and 11 podiums around the world, winning the championship in America and finishing second in points in Europe.

Montalegre marks the first time that Foust has competed in rallycross in Europe since 2018, when he won at Silverstone Circuit. Since then, he scored his third American rallycross championship, added to his extensive list of stunt driving credits on top Hollywood productions like John Wick: Chapter 4, and even doubled up on his driving with an acting credit as Ronnie Bucknum in Ford vs. Ferrari.

The FC2 will be the latest car prepared by Olsbergs MSE and First Corner that Foust has raced over his career, from the Ford Fiesta Supercars that he raced in the early 2010s to the FC1-X.

His appearance in Montalegre also signifies the kickoff of RallyX’s FC2 Star Car program, which will be run by Eric Gordon’s growing BAK40 team. The Star Car will see top names from the world of motorsport take turns behind the wheel all season long.

Tickets for RallyX of Portugal, coming to Circuito Internacional de Montalegre on March 29-30, are on sale now at https://www.rallyx.se/tickets/
